    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

Hi Rumble Thanks for the insight. I definitely appreciate it and see your point. Also, gorgeous scenery there! That temp seems very hot, wherever you are. Beautiful pup!

Ok. Sensible. So a locker isnt going to add any more stress to your gearing or drivetrain, whereas blindly upsizing wheels and tires will. And the lockers can obviously help more with actual traction than just a bigger tire of the same type. So, presumably the larger tires and lift have some...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

Thank you for that, Capn' Stout. I'd rather get that kind of information instead of watching potshots be thrown back and forth like a tennis match without much real info to be gained. I guess that what I was trying to wrangle out of Rumbledawg but he didnt bite and take the informative road. He...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

Ok, but your answer is still mainly describing a fight between you and Billiebob rather than informing the rest of us why you think just a lift and bigger wheels is better than just lockers front and rear. That's what I'm looking to know. I've got a stock GMC Sierra with an Eaton G80 in the...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

Rumbledawg: Billiebob stated his opinion with some anecdotal information to back up what he says is the more important equipment - the lockers. Rather than responding like you've just taken a beek to the chest and attack him, can you tell the less off-road experienced among us why it is you...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

I had NO idea that an older Ford Escape checked off that many boxes...

How do you get weather updates with no cell service?

Yeah, I have a CB radio with weather, and a couple of Cobra FRS/GMRS with weather. But this would be a good addition to the pic-a-nic table, especially because you can use it to listes to any local music stations, and it will interrupt in case of bad weather. I like the flashlight and its...

How do you get weather updates with no cell service?

That one looks pretty cool. I'll have to take a look at one.

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

I forget if I've chimed in here before, but my 8 cylinder 2014 GMC Sierra z71 double cab 4x4 gets BETTER fuel economy than a brand new Chevy Colorado or Toyota Taco. That's mainly because of the cylinder deactivation technology that the V8' have but the V6's dont. So it is also much more roomy...

    Yellowstone in August

This is the camp I'm in. During that last big hurricane that decimated Peurto Rico, as it was heading to Fla, I stood there watching the news. The news/weathercaster said Fla had NEVER seen anything like this. Well, I'm old enough to remember a little incident known as hurricane Andrew. If it...

    Yellowstone in August

@Robbie G , @grubworm , Are your plans still on for this month? @Norcalocal ...did you go last month? My nephew's wedding got moved to May 2021 on account of the COVID issue tightening some things up out there and because they wants the elders of the family to feel comfortable going. I'm still...

    Trail Security

Interesting piece. Nice work. As shotguns go, I'm partial to the Mossberg 500a pump with nice wood stock and forearm, but I'm sure I could find space in the cabinet for that Remington of yours

    Silverado sway while on trail

In my 14 Sierra 1500 z71, I get a lot of sway on pot-holed and filled city streets where the speed limit is low and there are a lot of turns and traffic lights along with the potholes. My girlfriend often (ok, VERY often) remarks how her 13 GMC Terrain Denali is a much more comfortable ride over...

Why are there so few Silverado overland rigs?

Dammit. I just leveled the front end of my 14 Sierra with Bil 5100's. After seeing this video, I feel the need for 4 more inches of lift and bigger tires. Oh, and to move out west somewhere. Nice video, nice build.

    This [truck] climbed Mt. Washington

Wow. Two miles. I dont think I used my descent control for more than a hundred yards at a time. I'll have to read up on it a little more, but I think its using low gear and applying brakes? I bet the Subaru was perfect for this

    This [truck] climbed Mt. Washington

So I got my "This car climbed Mt. Washington" bumpah sticks. I just need to decide where to put it. Hope you all enjoyed.

    This [truck] climbed Mt. Washington

They even do wintah tours in these, which I imagine might double to help get crews as close as possible to anyone who needs rescuing up there in the winter

    This [truck] climbed Mt. Washington

That train engineer and conductor just casually leaning against that old wooden railing...yikes! Not quite the same kind of "yikes" I felt as the cliff-side vehicle on some of the hairpin turns, but still. As I mentioned, theres a gift shop at the too (closed yesterday) but first, there's one...

    This [truck] climbed Mt. Washington

That silver thing with the two "gills" at the right side of the picture is an old aluminum canoe hanging off a truck. So this picture was taken at relatively level attitude. That's just pretty steep for a railroad. Which is why it's a cog, I guess
