I'm not typically too concerned with it. I figure most dirt bags are "shopping" at more populated areas than a secluded dispersed site down a dead end Forrest Service road. Then again some of the "local dirtbags" might know where to find these secluded spots as well. I figure it's always a...
My setup. Ive seriously considered switching to Dakota lithiums when these batteries die for weight reasons. Ive also removed the ham radio. i figure if im in camp my vehicle is right there so no need to have a "basecamp" radio.
My mom came out and watched the kids and Zippo and myself ran off to Broken Bow lake for the weekend in the Jeep with 2 of the dogs.
First night we stayed on a site that overlooks part of the lake. Really nice spot but we got hammered with storms overnight that caused some serious damage when...
Yeah because they aren't CARB or EPA approved. But the gov gets to exempt itself from such things so the military continues to use them as needed.
They make a civilian version with the fancy spouts...
Day to day I keep a Micro Roni brace in the Jeep. Takes about 30 seconds to drop my G17 into it. That 3rd point of contact makes quite a difference. I shot it at a 2 gun (PCC and Handgun) night match about a week ago and it worked great. I had my G17 in it and my G19 as my sidearm. With a...
Put it to work this weekend. Night one i used it to cut up a smaller dead fallen tree for firewood. The next day i used it to clear freshly fallen trees from storms off the trail. Its not going to win any speed sawing competitions but it gets the job done.
The lower chain speed should help...
I helped a buddy install a Btech UV25X2 in his truck a few days ago. Open as a barn door lol. Either they're still working though old stock or they dont care.
Next time you need to change up a radio like that google "MARS CAP MOD" Nearly any radio can be opened up like that, a lot of the "Big three" use a part on the board that has to be snipped out or a wire cut and others only require software changes.
Always have a G19 or G17 on hand usually when I travel I toss a 5.56 rifle in there either one of my ARs or my KELTEC SU16C which I like for it's compactness and lightweight.
Scooped one of these up to replace my older Tab 3 that is no longer compatible with GAIA. So far so good, didn't get it in time for our trip this weekend to Broken Bow but tinkering with it here at the house it's running GAIA smoothly.
Vankyo MatrixPad 75ish dollars
I used to be fairly active over there especially when I lived in SOCAL. I still sport my FYYFF on my Strom's top case. I probably haven't been on there in over a year. Once they sold the site it kind of became "eh" for me, and it was also so busy I couldn't keep up with anything. I mostly...
I do not. That's more complexity than I want to deal with and it stays pretty warm here year round so taking a tank water shower would probably be a welcome reprieve at the end of a day.
It'll get the job done but will only do 2 watts on high, really not a huge deal in a handheld there's other things that hold handhelds back outside of power. It's probably the most flexible of the certified GMRS radios, and can take an external antenna if needed which is a huge advantage...
