Are you planning on replacing the torsion bars with heavy duty ones? The stock bars aren't designed to handle that kind of weight. Just food for thought.
The turning radius of the first gens is WAY better than the second gens. I've noticed that vehicles with steering racks don't turn NEARLY as well as those with pitman/idler arm setups.
No updates yet. I'm still working out the design. I toyed with the idea of making the box removable so I can still use the trailer for utility purposes as well. I just don't think it's gonna work that way.
I hoping to start building it soon though.
If you're not carrying heavy loads, or doing sharp, Rocky trails on a regular basis (where risk of sidewall punctures increase), an E rated tire is likely overkill, IMHO.
I have a set of Toyo At2s on my 03 xterra. They've been fantastic. They are at the end of their life though.
I will be...
Honestly, that was one of the biggest reasons I got my license. I actually operated without a license for about 2 years before getting it. My wife expressed interest in driving, and loved it. She said I needed to put a radio in the truck as well. I figured with two vehicles out on the trail, I...
I went gmrs for several reasons.
1. I have zero interest in amateur radio as a hobby
2. Much easier to obtain a license
3. Covers my entire family and both vehicles
4. Everyone I go with has gmrs capability
Let's go into these a bit more.
If I was interested in doing ham as a hobby, I...
Just got back from a two day test run with the trailer. Towed it behind my 2013 Frontier Pro-4x.
The combo towed beautifully. The trailer tracks perfectly behind the truck. I discovered that the tires are almost exactly as wide as the Frontier.
Without much weight in there, it's very bouncy...
I'm really bad at taking pictures while doing this stuff, but I took my new trailer (still in utility trailer configuration) out for a couple of days to get used to towing it, and to test it out.
I had it hooked up to my 2013 Frontier Pro-4x (the blue truck). My wife drove my 2003 Xterra (the...
I realize this is probably best practice, but when you helped me with my aux electrical system, we ran it from the secondary fuse block.
I've not noticed any noise in real world use so far.
Congrats on the 275! It's a great radio, and you'll be very happy with it. I have one in each rig.
That's probably true, and definitely something I should consider....
That being said, I know how to work with wood, and already have the tools to do so. Steel, not so much.
Due to the cost of plywood (which I hadn't looked at prior to the initial design), I've decided to simplify the design.
I'm planning on having 3 doors. One on each side of the front, and a large rear access door.
Think similar to the smittybilt trailer.
Still planning on having a shower...
Looking great! I see a good Fronty build, I sub. I love how the truck has progressed. This is pretty much how I want to build mine, with a few differences.
Honestly, I think it was more a matter of momentum than anything else. I may have just used a bit more skinny pedal than he did.
I would have high centered in the Fronty though.
Pretty much, yeah. I've had instances where I was able to get over an obstacle in 4hi, and the jeep behind me ended up needing lockers and 4lo to make it over.
I feel the Nissan platforms are horribly under rated even in stock form. I'm constantly getting kudos from jeep Rubicons, that are impressed with what my essentially stock X can do.
I'm not installing the Lokka myself. I was quoted about 400 to have it installed, and with the work required to drop the front diff, pull the carrier, make sure the backlash is correct, and all the other crap that could go wrong if I do it myself, that price is a no brainer to me.
As far as...
