Connecting to the tow vehicle is handled by two plugs. A standard 4 pin plug for the lights, and a kickass USA 3 pin anderson plug charges my battery in the trailer. The anderson plug pumps 20A into my battery while the vehicle is running.
Water is stored in an Ironman 4x4 america 10.6 gallon...
I use 1 5/8 superstrut for the crossbars holding up my Ironman 4x4 nomad RTT on the rack in my Xterra.
I used 13/16 superstrut crossbars to hold another Ironman tent on my trailer for a year, and had zero issues so far. Been on some pretty washboardy roads as well. Just make sure to use lock...
For me, building and working on the vehicle is part of the fun though. I just went through and reorganized the majority of my camping gear. Now that I have a roof top tent on top of the X, my layout has changed.
I'm planning my first long trip this year (10-12 days on the Idaho BDR), which will...
I do t know about everyone else, but the mountains out here get super treacherous when it snows. Then there's the Owyhees.... That mud gets extra sticky. If you've not experienced it, I can't begin to describe it.
So, in order for me to head out into that area, I have to wait until it dries out...
As far as how it's holding up, I don't know, as I just put it on there the other day. Time will tell how it does, but I don't really foresee any issues with it.
I'm not really sure what you mean by "weight being supported off the shovel"... Any chance you could elaborate the question a bit more?
Some recent things that have been purchased:
Double wide 4in thick self inflating mattress to replace the measly 1 inch mattress that comes with the tent.
Ordered some ironman4x4america.com quick release awning brackets. With the RTT on top of the X, when I put the awning up, I can't access...
Nah. We don't need pics. Once you've seen a jeep, you've seen them all. :tongueclosed:
Seriously though, welcome! I'm over in Caldwell, myself, and there are several others in the Boise area.
I'll likely head out your way at least once this year, as I've not done much on that side of the...
When @David H and I put the new RTT on top of Gamora, we had to take the Shovel off the roof rack. I was trying to figure out where Iwwas going to put it instead. Yesterday, I had the idea of putting some tube clamps with quick fists on the Jerry can handles.
Works awesome!
I've also been...
What, you don't want that authentic "moldy motor home" smell?
Seriously though, I'm really excited to see what you do with this. I'm currently switching my Xterra around a bit myself.
Finally got around to opening the new rooftop tent.
Got the light installed in it:
Got the power box mounted, and the plug run to the bottom side of the tent. Still waiting for some 12-2 wire, that should be here tomorrow.
Got my new hatchet mounted to the inside of the hatch using quick...

Me too! Gonna have to do some shakedown runs with the X and the trailer before we hit the bdr for 10 days or so this summer. And I'm sure I'll have some new gear tomorrow that needs testing.
