Jeep JK / JL Unlimited if you want the capabilities of a jeep in a 4 door.
Otherwise if capabilities aren't demanding, IFS sure makes for a lot nicer ride on the road. I'd look at a Lexus and go full comfort mode.
Thank you!
I'm happy so far with the power consumption of "stand-by" mode... That's what I'm calling it when I have nothing hooked up but still running the battery monitor and solar charge controller. The battery has lost about .05 volts so I imagine I can leave this sitting for a month or more...
Battery box is mostly done. Still need to build the outlet boxes in the trailer cabinet, the remote outlet box that will go into the tent, and setup the solar panels.
After finding that the Victron IP67 AC-DC charger reaches temps of 107 degrees F, I opted out of putting an AC outlet on the...
If you plan to be out there alone quite often, get the best winch you can afford, winch extensions, and some food for thought: With enough equipment, you can effectively winch yourself backwards with only a front winch.
When getting pulled out by someone, a recovery rope is much safer than a...
I have a 3 year old and a wife that camps with me so I'm never truly "alone" but we did venture out last summer without any other rigs. Our trick is to keep moving otherwise we get bored if there's no nearby activities and we stay anywhere for more than a couple nights.
Found myself getting confused with which connections go where and how many connections I need to make so I threw this together. Likely to change, since I probably forgot stuff.
This isn't really what Lucid Chart was made for so it didn't support fine details. Good enough to get the point...
Would you mind providing a link to the regulator? Any additional details that come to mind would be appreciated.
I'm in the process right now of setting up a couple LifePO4 batteries and will be running a diesel heater from it.
I've been using a vevor diesel heater for the last couple years. Zero issues aside from the annoying tick of the fuel pump... but I recently ordered the LF Bros N2-T when it was on discount. Hoping that it's quieter but overall, i really like the quick connect plugs, automatic altitude...
That's awesome, it's small world i guess. I've known him for about the last 15 years and he's a real stand-up guy. Very experienced in the custom automotive and distribution industry, and stays professional under stress. You couldn't pick a better, nor more reliable guy to do business with.
I asked some rangers and they said that technically, pulling a trailer is prohibited on the Alpine loop or any of the surrounding trails. They also told me that it's rarely enforced aside from Darwin or Murphy doing what they do... unless you get stuck and they need to rescue you.
It bummed me...
If I did it again, I would.. especially for how much LavaBox wants for their stuff now. DIY is the way, and their claim to fame (big flames) is simply achievable with a 20psi regulator.
My buddy started the FireCrate company which basically he's making the burners and DIY kits for people to...
The one I have is from LavaBox. It came with the ammo can firepit when I ordered it many years ago on a super discount.

There's nothing all that special about it besides it being narrow, like the ammo...
Update, I'm back to working on the trailer with a few small changes. I've used and abused it, done water crossings and taken it up and down some mid level trails. I'm actually surprised how my ugly welds are holding up on the axle and shock mounts. lol
Things I've done:
- Used and abused it.
-...
Hey sorry I didn't see your reply sooner. I did a little under 3k miles in total on the trip and only used 3rd gear while climbing hills when it bogged below 60mph. 4th gear was good on most the flat highways. 5th was only used for coasting down hill.
The main thing that helped was just trying...
Made it all the way to Colorado. We're out in dispersed camping outside Silverton off the Million Dollar Highway.
The JK 3.6 is a dog but the trailer is handling it. This winter I think I'm going to ditch the old Toyota truck axle and use a trailer axle.
