Alcan Hwy - Prudhoe Bay - Inuvik - July 2017

To bad the last section of the highway from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk isn't officially opened until November, would be cool to do that stretch if you are all the way up there.

LED lights and EMI affecting radios

Have you tried grounding the LED driver directly to a frame ground or a ferrite bead on the power line to see if it helps. Might be a cheap fix.

    Backpacking

Leading a hike on the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island next week with a group from my unit, planning on a 6 day trip. I've had to re-evaluate how I pack compared to how my rucksack is normally loaded. The ruck alone weighs 8 1.2 lbs without the reinforcement bars. I dug out my old...

    Where do I start?

Honestly, the jeep will likely take you almost anywhere you want to go as is, and with a good set of tires, even farther. Take it out a few times with someone who knows what they are doing and see if you need anything to do what you want. Meet up with other jeep guys/clubs and see what they...

    Canadian Artic Highway nearing completion

It has been on my list for a while to do the drive up the Dempster, but the extra drive into Tuk will make this perfect. Glad to see it is almost done. http://www.cbc.ca/news/multimedia/driving-to-the-top-of-the-world-exploring-canada-s-new-arctic-highway-1.4073615

    Differential Lockers: Front or Rear?

I'm not sure how the power is broken down on the Disco, but the FJ has a 40% front/60% rear split. Mine came with an e-locker in the rear and A-trac up front, I would say that makes more sense because of the power split. maybe doesn't matter as much if you have a 50/50 split though, although I...

Have you ever used your fuel in your Geri Cans?

I needed it to make it all the way across the Trans -Labrador highway. There was a couple times when the distance between gas stations was a bit to much for the FJs fuel range, especially loaded down like a Gypsy caravan. Other than that, have never really "needed" it. More like insurance on...

Where do you store your food, Is it safe to store it in the car?

Grizzlies are different. Some hunters I know had the camper torn off their truck by a grizzly who was after their moose. Definitely take full bear precautions in grizzly country.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Got in on the sale at Springtail, so ordered this up and installed last night. Pretty happy with the setup, just need to figure out how I'm gonna mount everything.

What do I really need for recovery gear?

You guys make me feel like I need more recovery gear. I have a winch, shovel, and a hi-lift. 1 tree-saver, a pulley that came with the winch, and a 30' tow strap. I guess it depends how often you get stuck, how often you wheel with others( can share gear, less load on the rig) That Bubba rope...

    Sleeping Bags

I have 16+ years in the Candian Army, we use a 3bag system similar to the US version. I can tell you one of the biggest mistakes people make is wearing to much clothing in their sleeping bags. During Winter Warfare training we actually recommend sleeping commando. If you can't do that, minimal...

To lift or not to lift

I would argue against upgrading the springs and shocks if you aren't gonna lift it right away. Just a waste of money if you decide to lift it a year down the road. The TRD should be fine until you figure out what you want to do. These trucks are very versatile out of the box. The Taco Is similar...
