The slight difference in your load setup from those pics won't really impact handling and weight distribution. There are other things to consider when loading a roof rack; wind noise, and what you off load first.
Some cases can howl at highway speeds. Usually re-positioning, or rotating, the...

I'm re-creating my YouTube channel under a "Brand" account. That means that I have to start over with zero everything. Zero subscribers, zero videos and zero views. The videos from the old channel have been re-uploaded under the new account, but I need your help to...
For the longest time, I never gave tent stakes a second thought. They come in their own little bag with the tent ready for the simple task of securing it to the ground. Hopefully that will hold true in windy conditions too! But then the inevitable happens. You find that one hard spot...
Cal4Wheel has sent a branded onion bag with their membership kit for many years.
Not sure what the shipping is, but for less than a buck, these work well. Holds up to 50lbs!

I've seen it a few times in the past week or so. It seems to happen when I'm writing a post. I figured the site was getting tired of me writing. If you've seen the length of some of my posts you know what I mean! The window/notification pops up for a second, disappears, and my post is still...
I think the number one skill a good spotter should have is the ability to think ahead. Seeing 2 or 3 steps ahead of where the vehicle is lets you begin to see different lines to take. It also helps if something goes wrong. Not disastrous like rolling down the side of the mountain, but if a tire...
The pump in a Sceptre can is pretty neat. I used to carry a 5G Jerry can for water in the cargo area and use the spout attachment to fill bottles. Other times, I kept the Jerry can in the footwell and used the spout to fill a 1L bottle. Now, I have a 5G FrontRunner can with the upgraded brass...
Oh, got ya! I was thinking to wrap it like a Christmas present and hope for the best. That makes more sense to have someone pull it in a more controlled direction.
You can link to videos and all kinds of image hosting sites. Instead of the Upload a File Button click this one instead. It lists...
A strap is a good idea. This has been my solution, a pool noodle.
But I think if you're driving off the jack, you'd want the whole thing covered. The pool noodle works well for a lift, given it's tendency to lean into the body. Remember, a Hi-Lift doesn't lift straight up. The vehicle is...
Since we're swapping stories...
This one time, when Bill Burke was doing a training session, he was going to demonstrate breaking the bead with the same method. He stuck the tongue under the bumper of his D90 and placed the base on the sidewall. This was on a factory LR wheel. Jack up, jack up...
As long as the person in the vehicle isn't trying to jostle it intentionally, the jack should be ok. The lifting movement of the Hi-Lift would move it more than someone sitting inside the vehicle moving an arm. But, every recovery is a case by case basis. If I had Quake, my 150 lbs. St. Bernard...
Run what you've got and get a good set of AT's for now would be my advice. Get used to the truck and its capabilities, then decide where you want/need to go next in terms of mods. When I got started, I was upgrading something almost every month or two. I could have saved a lot of money (but lost...
@RichardS Thanks for the pics! Question about the Hi-Lift and tire off the bead. Is the Hi-Lift being used to unfold the tire from the rim? It's hard to see exactly, but looks like the tongue is hooked under the bead.
For my set of 4 roof rack lights, I use x2 4-pin trailer harnesses. The outer lights are on one circuit, and the inner pair on another. Two + and two - wires on the harness makes a perfect fit. I also connected opposite ends of the harness to each circuit so they don't get mixed up.
Google Maps/Earth are great places to start. I'll use Maps for the highway driving part to sort travel times, motels (if needed), and gas stations. This usually means having multiple browser tabs open, one for the main track and others for segments. The segments are where I punch my start...
