The Search for the BEST Overland Camp Chair

I agree the Kermit chairs are great, but setup time killed it for me. When I get to camp or grabbing lunch, I want immediate deployment.

Lessons from a guy who couldn't wait...

Get out and get her dirty! Smart call to turn around before you get into trouble. I agree that sliders are probably most important. The FJ has good approach/departure angles so bumpers are needed for awhile. Tires are the most important for traction and durability on the trails...

    Double D-Ring elimination cheap trick

I cut out he d-rings after my rtt tent straps came loose and banged the truck. But i removed the d-ring completely and replaced it with a sea to summit full clip. Can be installed on existing straps. https://www.rei.com/product/850233/sea-to-summit-2-pin-side-release-field-repair-buckle...

Overland Pros Mojave 1400 RTT Review

Nice review and beautiful scenery. One thing i have done in the past for the guy lines is to loop them under the bottom of thr ladder. It keeps the annex taut without tripping over the lines since they are right under the tent. But if it is windy, you will want the lines secure in the ground...

    MAXTRAX

There was snow and ice on the ground. I can't totally remember since it was almost 2 years ago. Wheels were spinning on ice so we used the MaxTrax for extra traction. I have BFG KM2s and don't let them spin. They helped me out but broke. I also used the winch a few places. The Rubicon in the...

    Battery’s and multiple battery’s

I have been using group27 Interstate deep cycle marine/RV battery from Costco. Tough part about deep cycle batteries ia alternators being able to charge them adequately. I will now be periodically using my home charger to be sure it is topped off. I just changed mine out this week as my truck...

    MAXTRAX

I broke my MaxTrax the second time I used them in some snow on the Rubicon. I wont be buying them again. The cheapos have been known to break as well. I spent a good amount of time fabing up brackets to use the MaxTrax mounts (which are great btw) on my rack. If I'm stuck, ill just use my winch...

Ironman MTs Are they worth it....reviews

What were u aired down too? Never heard of Iron man... What rack do u have on the D2?

Mounting rtt to prinsu roof rack 4runner

Pics? Leave the inner screws pretty tight and then u just need to tighten the outer nuts. Once the crossbars on the bottom of the tent are mounted, they shouldn't come off. Since I'm not familiar with the rack, you might be able to add another set of crossbars like Yakima and then mount the tent...

New affordable lite RTT option coming to soon!

Looks promising. The selling point of an rtt is comfort, not necessarily lightweight. Hopefully they have a good mattress. Spending a week in an rtt and you won't want to compromise comfort to save 20lbs

The Search for the BEST Overland Camp Chair

I have been using the Pico chair for a number of years. Super compact, easy to deploy once you learn the routine and comfy upright chair seating. Awesome.

    Choosing The Right Tent

Don't forget that there are multiple kinds of ground tents as well, not just the backpacking tents. Quick setup OZ tents or similar canvas tents tents offer super fast deployment with weather proof canvas and PVC floors with standing room and rain flys. Like a roof top tent for the ground...

Batteries; is the juice worth the (pocketbook) squeeze?

Lithium doesn't do well with plain old 12v alternators. I also went the Costco Interstate route with a 27dc battery with plenty of deep cycle juice and enough cca for California weather. Less than $100 abd I know plenty of people who have optimas that have crapped out on them after a few years...

    Awning/Awning rooms and wind

Stake it down well. It can act as a big sail and the gusts can lift it. Desert wind is unpredictable and changes direction all the time. The material can handle a lot. Stake the guy lines and anchor the poles.

    Water filtration

Katadyn is a solid company and sure it is a top quality filter. I have had a katadyn pocket filter for 15 years and though slow, the best filter out there. Can't believe how expensive it is now.

    Gazelle Tents

Have you looked at the OZ tents or similar pop up tents? Canvas body, aluminum frame, sets up in 2 minutes. http://www.overlandpros.com/index.php/product/panamint-2000/

    Cummins Turbo Diesel Crate engine

Mine is already diesel so would have been easier. For 9k, you get a brand new engine, wiring harness, ECU, alternator, power steering pump, belts, and pedal assembly. Its a pretty good deal and less than an LS conversion. Yes, the adapters can be pricey but more fabricators will bring those...

    Cummins Turbo Diesel Crate engine

Well, my dreams of installing the Cummins came to a screeching halt yesterday. I bought a running low mileage rover 300TDI engine yesterday for my engine swap. Much less fab work and will save many thousands for my build.

    Portable power packs

The lithium are slick, but my only reservation is that you can't recharge on 12v. It would need to go through an inverter in the truck to the power pack. Buddy just bought a Yetii 1000 lithium and it is very nice. Powering it with GZ foldable 100w panel. I have a Powerfilm 60w and now Flexopower...
