  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    Colorado trip

Often overlooked is Stony Pass. Roughly 27 camping areas over 40 miles and far less traveled than the Alpine loop areas. Creeks on both sides of the pass and a lake on the west side. Pass is at 12,592'. This is roughly between Lake City and Creede...

    Black Bear Pass

Its monsoon season, so yes, you can get rain in the afternoon, but not always. Much of Colorado over 10k' got snow over the weekend too. Drought, forest fires, snow in August. You never know whats gonna happen.

X-Bull Traction Boards and Mounting System

I wound up not using the aluminum. It was overly complicated and doubled my price to 4 mounts. I instead only used 2 mounts and ran them through opposite corners. I zip tied the boards together too as added security.

    Yukon and Alaska

Fall of 2021 we are doing Texas to Deadhorse. Covid quashed this years plan. I've been in and on the Arctic Ocean when I was 21 working for a contractor on an Arco drilling area in Kuparuk, AK. Saw my first of many polar bear there. Amazingly gorgeous animals. Lubbock TX - Colorado Springs CO...

    What is it with axes?

I carry a Fiskar splitting ax and a chainsaw every time we go to our cabin. 50% of the time I have to stop to remove branches or trees. I only use the chainsaw a couple times a year but my ax gets used every time. Felling branches, splitting firewood. As for trenching, wherever I've lived, its...

    Who's more annoying?

Both. Respect is a two way street... no pun intended.

Air intake and exhaust. Is it worth it?

Couldn't agree less. These engines used to be big air pumps that could be manipulated with increased air, fuel and spark timing, but with EFI and ECU's, not so much. The computer will do what the manufacturer has it tuned to do, and adding anything else to it is a waste... expect snorkels, which...

    Imogene Pass

As an FYI... Pikes Peak may be closed. Fire in the area last week and this plus construction has slowed on the new building at the top. No vehicles, only busing people up on some days, but not all.

FYI - Imogene Pass closed - Monsoon rains

Pay for another mediocre product? I'm good.

    Trail information

There are none. There are few in any NP. Moab area being an exception. Old River Road in Rocky Mountain NP is an exception but its technically a road, not a trail. Yellowstone and Yosemite are IMO the two most politicized parks in the US. They will close any section at any time at the drop of...

    What is Overlanding?

    I paraphrased it for you:

Sounds to put you to sleep.

My least favorite? That annoying sound my ex-wife makes. You know the one. Just breathing?

    What is Overlanding?

It has become a social media term for people who otherwise are boring and need attention. It isn't overlanding in the US, its trail driving and camping in style.

FYI - Imogene Pass closed - Monsoon rains

Why is it so many people panic about the weather? TO add to it... ads galore. A rather unpleasant viewing experience.

    Phone mounts

For Jeep JK and JL/JT, I have used 67Designs dash mount with carbon arm. Phone mount was rock solid. I just bought a Bulletproof Mounting Solutions setup with dual balls for two arms. One for my phone, for for the GAIA tablet. I am working on a media rail that will mount across the dash with...

    Looking for Suggestions

If you push it, you can make it in one day. I made it in a Ryder truck from Phoenix to Memphis in a single shot. It was a long ass day, but I made it. Gives you an additional day to adjust to the altitude. I like to arrive in the general vicinity and take my first and last day in a hotel. Arrive...
