Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
From the south end:
Section 1: Hwy 70 between Tularosa and Ruidoso will take you back to I-25 to the west, and US 380 to Roswell to the east.
Section 2: T or C is on I-25. You are also very close to San Antonio and I-25 when on US 380 just before you drop south along the WSMR boundary.

Assuming you use a safe thawing method, refreezing is safe for most foods, if not all, foods. The main drawback of freezing is a degradation of texture in meats, etc. because of the ice crystals that form in the food as the water freezes. This is multiplied every time the food is refrozen...
Yes, the elk tags are unit specific. In unit 55A, it is further broken down between 2 wildlife management areas and the Valle Vidal. The VV hunt is a once in a lifetime draw for bull elk, and once in a lifetime for cow elk. Stepson & I drew together, so we each have a cow tag. Our hunt is...
The quarantine was not in place when I did the NMBDR. In many of the rural areas in the southern part of the state, people didn't seem too concerned. The Jicarilla reservation roads around Ruidoso were closed, though. There was heightened awareness around the Navajo and northern pueblo lands...
Section 1 you have to get to about Weed, about 150 miles in to get out of the heat. On Section 2, your pretty much hot after you drop out of the mountains and into Carrizozo which is one reason we got a hotel in T or C. Not too hard to find cool spots on the other sections.

On Saturday we broke camp, headed up through the pines along the flank of Mount Taylor in the Cibola National Forest.
The Cibola is a disjointed collection of National Forest lands that are spread across northern and central New Mexico, Oklahoma, and west Texas. The area we were in is the...
Monday I got back from doing the NM BDR. Left ABQ for Cruces on the 15th. The first 2 days were warm but the rest was great. No rain, so no mud. Every day had great scenery. I've got trip report going in the "overland trips now or then" section. The Jemez and the Tusas had so many people...
Day 4
Friday began with a climb through the pines on Bill Knight Gap Road. This is the northern reaches of the Gila National Forest.
I saw quite a few elk and a few mule deer in the morning.
After passing through Bill Knight Gap and out of the Gila, the road leads into P-J...
