Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I think this really depends on what truck you have. On the Tacomas I think they don't add much, if any, height as they replace the factory tailgate panel. On my Colorado, they would lay on top of the tailgate and so add about 1/2".
Hi Terry,
Did you mean Cinnamon Pass?
It looks from your avatar that you have a 4wd Ford Sportsmobile. If so, you shouldn't have any problem navigating Cinnamon, Hurricane, California, and Corkscrew passes. Ophir either. But the van will feel really big, and the road really narrow in places...
We have a Spot X and have never had an issue during our travels in the lower 48. I use the tracking when I travel alone so my wife can see where I'm at. We got it a couple years ago and went with it instead of the Garmin because of the lower price. The Garmin is supposed to have a better...
You might want to consider the Echo 58V 4ah 16" too. I have one and really like it but I've only used it a handful of times. It tested very high on Project Farm's Youtube channel.
Gotcha. I thought you were talking about the 2wd vs 4wd designation in the VIN. My mistake. As an aside, my understanding is that some of the 4wd converters try to use Ford truck suspension and drivetrain parts where they can and some do not. Not knowing who did the conversion makes it much...
Ford didn't make any 4wd Econolines that I am aware of. So any 4wd version is an aftermarket conversion. The closest to "factory" would be a Quigley conversion which could be purchased on new vans through Ford dealers. I don't know if it was reflected on the VIN, though.
Made my own tailgate overlay ala Mountain Hatch. Custom cut sheet of 3/8" HDPE with radiused corners was about $110. Longer screws and washers set me back about a buck.

Looks like Kent did a great job with the tracks, and he's still refining it!
We use solar Luci lights. They're small, bright, and recharge on the dashboard during the day.
They are regularly on sale (we got ours 50% off last at Christmastime).
We have a Sportsmobile Sprinter 4wd and a Chevy Colorado ZR2. And my wife's Outback.
The Sprinter has Vancompass suspension, lift, skidplates, and rocker guards. We also have a 12k Warn winch on a Roambuilt bumper. It is more capable than I thought it would be, and has done the AZ BDR, NM...
