Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I'm starting a 'thread lightly' campaign to stop the production of all recovery gear by any and all manufacturers. These products are enabling the erosion of our natural lands. Mountain bikes are next!
For several months I've been catching up on the Youtube videos from "SUV RVing". He drives an outfitted RAV4, but none of it, from my recollection, has to do with lifts, recovery gear, etc. All his gear has to do with convenience, storage, and activities. This guy's been places I would love to...
I participated in the 2016 GB on t4r.org. Order placed in November, received rack in May 2017. It's a great rack, but if I had to do it again, I would have looked deeper at other more flexible options such as the Front Runner with the track system.
It's a mixed bag when it comes to those who calls themselves "overlanders". Having car-camped for many, many years, I only discovered last year I was overlanding the whole time. :) I agree with most that you've said, but you're pretty much preaching to the choir posting in this forum.
Last time I was out there, I drove on the 13 Mule(???) trail just to see what was down it. There were numerous campers and RTT rigs overnighting it there. It's in a canyon though so visibility might be an issue. Towards the end it opens up so you might get a better view there, though tent...
I used to pack beans, a grinder, Aeropress, and a Jetboil. Going through the process of building that cup of coffee was enjoyable. Now I pack VIA, powdered creamer, some sugar and I call it good. Hell, sometimes I just brew tea. No matter what I drink I always use my Yeti Lowball.
Rotopax does have an L-bracket mount they make / sell. Problem is they mount the Rotopax containers long-side vertically (if that makes sense). I don't believe this mount was meant to be on a roof rack. The thing that kills me is Rotopax could have drilled a couple of more holes and given the...
#1: My 14+ year-old Jetboil for sure!
#2: Nothing comes to mind. We have stuff we don't consistently use every trip but they do come into play every so often. Now, if the question was stuff I have at home which I bought but never used, then I'd have a whole list for you.
#3: A cast iron skillet...
Sorry this happened to you. When you're ready, maybe post a list of stuff you need. I've seen the generosity of this forum's members in that thread "paying it forward". If there's an instance where that applies, it's right now with you. I might have some things I can offer up as well. Either...
@Adventure-Yeti
Thanks for the info on this trail. I got a chance to run it yesterday morning after an overnighter on BLM land near 29 Palms. The trail was a good mix of easy to the light side of moderate. I didn't get to any of the side trails though because I was by myself. I've not been on a...
A few of the priority items are fuel and storage on the roof rack.
Fuel: I'm leaning towards Rotopax but I'm looking for a solution which would allow me to carry / store them standing up. Ideally, I would like to carry up to 4 2-gallon Rotopax containers (2 fuel, 2 water).
Storage: I'm also...
It is a shame. Many of the places I've visited when I was in my teens and early twenties are now overrun. We stay away from the National Parks also. Honestly, I'm more concerned about the conservation aspects of the National Parks rather than making sure the hordes and hordes of people have...
We have a Colemn 2-burner white gas stove we used to use often. Now a days, we bring a Coleman propane stove as our main unit, then if a secondary cooking source is needed, we run our Jetboil with the pot adapter. Mine you, we're only cooking for three and our meals aren't elaborate. We'll often...
Doesn't look fully loaded yet. Is the additional weight on the rear noticeable? I have one (steel) that I originally bought to haul gear for camping. What I ended up using it for was to haul soil and mulch. I would recommend a hitch stabilizer if you haven't already picked one up.
Wasn't planning on jumping on the bandwagon this soon but an upcoming trip necessitates it. I'm now drinking the Rotopax cool-aid. Only have a 2-gal gas container so far but will have to pick up a few more when the local shop have them back n stock the next day or so.
