    Eclipse camping - Bend OR

Anyone know the general mosquito situation in Malheur during the August time frame?

Single Scepter horizontal water can carrier.

I don't feel so bad now but I'll probably still pick up one next time they come into stock. Thanks.

What do you use to store all your gear?

I'm not sure what "gear" means in your instance but if it consists mainly of fairly light-weigh items (e.g., tents, sleeping bags, etc), then I'd go with a rooftop box. I have a set of Thule 50" crossbars which extends out a bit from the roof line. I mount the rooftop box as far out as I can...

Single Scepter horizontal water can carrier.

Probably a long-shot but maybe check your local Costco. I don't know if they were the same cans but I stumbled across a pallet full of Sceptre cans a few months ago. The description said they were made to carry fuel. They were under $20 a piece. I kicked myself because I went back a week later...

    Camp Site Tips and Tricks.

I don't like using the prepackaged wipes because they seem to leave a residue which makes my skin somewhat sticky. I haven't used them for years just for that reason. Then recently I figured out I can use the wipes to get most of the muck and dirt off, then use a wet / damp towel to wipe off the...

Mattress/pad in the back of the 4X4 Questions

I use one of those bi-fold workout mats. They have a faux leather texture that my sleep bag doesn't slip n' slide against, and it's about an inch and a half thick of dense foam. Might not offer enough support if you've got back issues though. Sorry but I don't have the details on the product but...

    Eclipse camping - Bend OR

With the numbers they're expecting to swarm OR, added they're all not going to be like-minded OB types, something could likely happen. A fire it not on our must-do list when camping (dispersed or otherwise). It helps not having to haul in or process wood anyway :)

    Eclipse camping - Bend OR

I'm looking now at Malheur National Forest land East of Seneca, OR. Any opinions on that general area?

    Eclipse camping - Bend OR

Man! Now I have to carry fuel? Lots of good info and perspectives. Keep 'em coming. The little I'm able to offer is the Ochoco Forest Service say they expect all roads in Ochoco to be opened and the only restriction are camp fires at this point. But they advised me to call back at least...

    Eclipse camping - Bend OR

The family and I are planning a trip from Socal for the eclipse. So far the plan is to take the 395 and try to find camping within Ochoco National Forest. I was hoping some members at least had a thread going for information but they've been surprisingly scarce. Doesn't sound like you're...

Towing a trailer in CA sucks

...and our use of indicators, and the distance we merge in front of a vehicle, and ability to interpret basic symbols. The list goes on and on. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk

    Camp lighting

Agreed. I much prefer the light from a white gas lantern. They're pretty bullet-proof if you just keep them stowed away properly for transit. I couple mine with a tripod stand and it's worked really well. I do use LED on occasion but I find the light harsh and electronics in general are fussy.

    Food on the trail

Food Saver bags are great! They pretty much allow you to bring anything you want, then only require some hot water to heat. For day trips, the food I have usually revolve around the Jetboil. So it's a Mountain House meal or, in a pinch, a cup-o-noodle. I rarely cook when out for just the day...

    August 2017 Solar Eclipse trip

I'm also in SoCal, and never having had been up to Oregon, I was curious if you have and are looking at a specific area to view the eclipse? Surprisingly, I haven't found much on the topic of the eclipse on the forum. Once I figure out a path up to Oregon, I was going to toss out a post for...

POLL: What is your average MPG?

'16 4R: average 17.5 on 89UL. Swapping out to 87 lately to see how she does. With 91, I was getting 16.8'ish.

    Total Solar Eclipse 2017

The family and I are trying to plan for this. Despite my daughter starting school the week prior to the eclipse, we're thinking to pull her out for it. She is also interested in seeing it and this is the closes for us in the foreseeable future. Likely we're heading up to OR. Can anyone offer...

So You Wanna Be an Overlander

Start close to home with an over-nighter at a location you're comfortable with. From there, venture out further and, as many have said, refine your setup while you gain experience. You may very well discover this is NOT for you; hopefully realizing that before dropping hundreds, if not...
