Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I run with both. I have a Yeasu 2980 hooked up to a Diamond M285 as my workhorse, then an opened up HT that will RX and TX on VHF, UHF, MURS, and GMRS/FRS. Then most of the time my mountain topper and spark plug antenna with me too. You know in case I need to go old school...
I think the 2980 is...
tacky grease like the Lucas will work well as it sticks well and is water repelant. I used to use Caterpillar black moly grease because I worked in a CAT shop, right now my grease gun is loaded with Schaffer's because a buddy of mine bought me a tube after I did some work for him.
I'm honestly...
You might also want to check your coil and ignition module, those guys could be on the way out causing iffy or inconsistent spark which will cause hickups like you describe as well.
Thanks man.
I went slipper spring to make spring mounting easier and cheaper. Also this is not going to be a serious off road trailer so it was a good trade off to me. As far as the notches go, i put a bead of weld at the corners to strengthen them. Also the sides of the spring box are 2x2x1/4...
The only time an alignment will change is the event of wear or damage. That being said last time I aligned my rig was 5years ago after replacing tie rod ends.
If you need frequent alignments there is an issue in your suspension or steering that needs attention.
I wonder if its just the stuff my local dealer carries then. Anyway, yeah the small 1" bearings that are likely in that little axle are not something I would trust on a long trip...
All the Dexters I have seen ship without the perches welded on. Before you swap over hubs make sure you can source bearings to fit your spindles. Most 5 lug hubs will be set up for a 3K+ axle, meaning the spindles are larger than what you will likely have under that Lowes trailer necessitating a...
Generally speaking you have long lasting brakes that perform less well, or well performing brakes that don't last long. On all of my rigs I typically just run Napa select pads and rotors, they wear like iron and have never left me wanting (have run them on my 80 Isuzu (TONS of ridiculous off...
I ride a Giant Escape that I like to pretend is a do everything bike. Honestly it has been a great commuter/ gravel hybrid on the Maxis Ramblers (700x38s). I have even taken it on some serious mountain bike trails and done well. I think the key is having double wall wheels and knowing when to...
For me it all depends on the situation. 90% of the time when I need a jack I have the luxury of planning, as such its the old school hydraulic floor jack and jack stands. For things where I cannot plan things out (read Im not at my shop) and I need to pull a wheel I simply use the factory jack...
The underside of the floor is intended to remain bare. As it is marine grade OSB it either needs to be 100% sealed (which is not practical) or one facing needs to be left un coated to allow the wood to breath. That being said, both popups have solid floors. Olive will need most if not all of the...
Not much progress due to other things going on (stupid adult malarkey), anyway my wife got a bonus at work so that will be covering the new canvas. Other than that not much has been done, I was able to weld on some stabilizer jacks but thats about it. Fall and winter it gets really hard to work...
Honestly the only time an alignment should change is in the event of component wear or damage. If you are needing frequent alignments something is wrong and should be looked into, this is typical of badly worn steering or suspension causing an alignment setting to "drift".
The only time I have...
Honestly, I think a lot of people are skeptical of the new tech in cars because it wasn't that long ago that it all started so the initial reliability issues are still fresh in the mind. Then when MFGs started multiplexing rigs, again a lot of issues popped up. In my HD on highway experience I...
Seeing one in person honestly solidified it for me, it will be my next rig. Its essentially the same dimensions outside as my Escape, but has more capability and gets better fuel millage. Also being a 4 cylinder it will be easier to work on than the V6 in my Escape, and even that thing is simple...
A few days ago I flagged down a guy in a parking lot to chat about his Maverik, lol. Dude was super cool about it and thought it was funny. Anyway he had a basic model and was extremely happy with it. He traded in an F150 for it as he didn't find himself using all of the bigger Ford's capabilities.
I would jump on it, worst case it will be much better than the 600. If I remember correctly you are running an Edelbrock, so this 450 being a Holley will be more tuneable (at least in my opinion). Keep us posted as I will be very interested to see how that 450 treats you.
