Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Now that tear down was complete my wife began focusing on rebuilding the interior and I started focusing on the chassis. The plan here was to rebuild all of the cabinets making them stronger but also by using redwood and cedar we would make them more resilient should they ever get wet, and...
Here it is kids, my wife and mine pop up trailer build. I figured this was a good spot for this as we are literally touching and improving every single part of this trailer, essentially the original Palomino Colt was a template from which we started work.
The whole thing started like most...
Thanks for the photos man. What are you doing for a clutch and transmission adapter? You are running the Citroen transmission correct? I just love the whole concept of this guy, and I'm a real sucker for uncommon engine swaps.
Well I was able to get more work done today. I got the rear differential and the steering linkage pulled. Next step will be getting one of my tires mounted to do test fitting, then I will pull the front suspension down and remove the rear trailing arms.
As I was wrapping things up a buddy of...
@Road I am going to be going for a more polished look in the paint and with any lettering and striping done. I'm currently thinking of doing a deep high gloss green, like British Racing Green. Also my wife is a graphic designer and I have experience in screen printing and decal making from my...
I feel like I have been slacking big time on working on the project. Its been really cold so I haven't been too motivated to get out in the shop. Combine that with some other work I have needed to do on my daily, my wife's car and my sister in law's car and well I just haven't had much time. I...
Um, wow...
That is one seriously cool car. I have always though it would be cool to have one of those small Citroens. Some of the design in French cars from the 40s to the 60s just blows me away.
Would you be willing to post more photos of the engine and talk about the swap some more?
Nice score man!
Another thing I would do when you plumb that guy in is add a power steering cooler. It will not only help keep things cool when you load that winch, it will also add a little more fluid capacity in the system.
Morse code and QRP operating has been one of the most humbling endeavors of my life. Seeing as how you have your extra ticket this wont apply to you, but I don't think QRP is the best way to break into HF. Had I done it differently I would have tried with a bit more power than 6watts. The step...
Yeah I know the difference between the 2 QCX units. I meant my previous comment as an illustration of how much bigger the QCX+ is than the mini. I suppose I could have been clearer on that eh.
I have a QCX plus. Honestly for the cost of the thing you wont find a better radio. Mine as measured puts out 6watts on 40 while consuming half an amp at 12volts. It also has a practice mode and decoder which is extremely nice. One thing to note though, when using WASPR mode this thing gets hot...
As soon as I got the body off and saw how obnoxious the tank was this popped into my mind. I'm going to try to find a fuel tank that will fit between the frame rails that will sit under the cab, I'm thinking something like a Toyota Corrola tank might be the right size. Anyway I will be mounting...
I do quite a bit of gravel biking. I ride a Giant Escape (yes partially so I can say, I'm going to escape with an escape in an escape...) that I threw some better tires on. I'm into it about $800 after everything (bike, tires, saddle, bags, fenders). Honestly you can still get a decent mountain...
I use those two terms, along with down south and up north. I have also heard Canadians use terms like out west and back east. I think it has a lot to do with how people moved across North America.
I did essentially this on my TJ and my old Isuzu pickup, it does help when climbing up onto an obstacle and I think it just looks cool. Just be aware that there are laws on the books in many places about how much of a tire must be covered by body work, mud flaps or a bumper to minimize road...
Progress is slow, but its happening. Got the body off of the frame today and loaded on to the buyers trailer, so I didn't even have to deal with tripping over it in my shop, perfect. After that my dad and I set the 49 cab on the frame. I'm going to need to cut out the firewall and make a new on...
