Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I really rough it. I just dial the thermostat to the interior temp I want and then sleep in what ever I want. It runs off of gasoline or diesel and uses outside air for combustion and vents outside as well. With the 1" Styrofoam insulation of the teardrop, I can heat it all night at zero...
you think like minded people will be great to be around until you realize they are crotchety old farts and crazy just like you. ;-)
Hope to meet you on the trails someday.
You keep referencing Black Bear Pass. It isn't hard. I took a group of neophytes in bone stock Jeep Cherokees over it several years ago. I even took a double cab Ford Pickup over it. It did take a 17 point turn to get around the one switchback, but I got it done.
Black Bear can scare the...
It is hard to find trails in Colorado where you would be all by your lonesome. You really have to try hard to go more than a few hours without seeing another vehicle. The San Juan's are the closest to you and you will find half the people there are from Texas.
Over the years I would hate to say how many times I wheeled back into somewhere remote only to find some burned out long hair hippy freak at the end of the trail in an old rusty Datsun B210 enjoying himself. Run what you have. The most important thing is to get out and do it. Heck I covered...
I was more interested in the Innovator path. I figured I would qualify since I designed and built a sweet extreme offroad teardrop from scratch and documented it. I have posted scores of solutions to problems such as a cheap and effective method of mounting a high lift, a custom tall trailer...
I have been on here a while and every once in a while I ask myself, how do you qualify for badges, etc?
For instance, the builder badge. I have built a rock crawler/expedition vehicle and posted a build thread. I designed and built from scratch an offroad teardrop and posted a extensive build...
I have been an obsessive explorer/photographer in what little spare time I have had for the last 45+ years. My wife and I have covered the Rocky Mountains from Mexico to Canada. I can say that there are few roads in Colorado that I have not been on. I have probably 400 lbs of maps gathered...
How about an informal meet-n-greet at Fudruckers this weekend sometime? They have great burgers and shakes at reasonable prices and lots of tables. Or you pick a place.
I'm a Colorado guy out here working for Northrup Grumman on contract for at least 6 months. Had to leave my rig back in Colorado, but would like to meet some of you guys if you have a meet-n-greet sometime. I am in Sterling, VA.
I've been overlanding as you call it for 45+ years and extreme...
I have been eyeing those for some time. Kind of looking for one that needs some TLC. My first order of business would be to drop a solid front axle in the front and fab up a long arm setup, most likely a D44 front and D60 in the rear.
Pearl Pass is only open a few weeks a year. While not hard. It does have some ledge roads that will freak out many flat landers. Coming from the Aspen side, the last portion getting to Crusty Butt as the locals call it, is 20+ miles of road filled with basketball sized rocks. It gets a bit...
Great work. In jest, I want to ask one question..... Does your wife call you a pain in the ass perfectionist? Mine does, but in the same breath says "but you do nice work", like there is no correlation.
I built a brand new 1973 Chevy van back in the day, I put a stand up fiberglass top on it...
Don't waste your money on fancy regulators with a gauge to measure the tank pressure. Pressure holds steady for the most part until the tank is empty. They also tend to freeze up when used. The simple fixed regulators seem to work the best and are the cheapest. I recommend the 100 psi...
