Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Got out to Moshannon State Forest and the neighboring game lands for some dirt road therapy and deer scouting.
Got to get some more mud on the new tires and man, I just needed the time in the forest.
Tried out a new app for hunters/outdoorsman and compared it to my other map app.
We did get...
Yes. For our state parks it has been in use since 2014. But , our free sites just went to the fee and the site. I feel it was a necessary evil and is actually going to be great in the long run. But, we know how some love change
The good far outweighs the bad in my opinion.
I much prefer having a reservation and to know what site I am arriving to.
You can go to the Allegheny National Forest and it is first come first serve, but with the popularity of this hobby, you may be searching for a site and probably not getting any of the ones you wanted.
Other than the...
That is when the reservation window ends.
With state parks, you can stay one night in the honor system. You pay in an envelope in a lock box.
They were rumored to allow this for the sites, but so far...that has not been established.
Before, you had to request the permit 3 days in advance...
Yes. You had to request a free permit with the forest district.
Now, they can assist you with the reservation, but it is much easier to just do it yourself on the app or website.
If you have stayed at any state parks in PA, other surrounding states as well, then you have already used Reserve...
So, if you did not know or missed my other ramblings, PA motorized camping has changed.
The formerly free sites are now 10 bucks a night, but the reservation process has become much easier.
And...to my surprise...they got some decent maps of where their sites are.
Tuscarora Rothrock and Bald...
The main route is 90 percent off pavement. The Blue and Red. Mostly the main forest roads. The only pavement is secondary roads...most do not even have lines on them.
The green routes are nearly 100 percent off pavement, and include drivable trails and 4x4 high clearance roads.
I plan to stay...
Found something to do with maps(my favorite thing)
Purple Lizard released their 4th edition of Bald Eagle.
There is a few changes for sure...but checkout how many are on this very small area.
4th
2nd edition
@Dusther210 was trying to post some of my routes.
I unfortunately can not access the SD card they are on anymore. I have them shared on Facebook...and a member here posted slot of them in one big dump.
I really dislike electronic devices, so most of my information is logged on paper maps and...
I am buying tires in the next week or 2...then I plan to spend the weekend adventuring through Rothrock and Bald Eagle. I have not been in the forest for about a month...withdrawal is terrible....State Park adventuring just isn't the same
Old Lancaster Valley gate is now back up.
And early on in the year a fellow adventurer noticed a gate on Kammardiner Rd. Mike and the lizard team added it to the 4th edition also.
I have not been in BESF in some time. Guess it is time to head back with the new map.
