FACEBOOK GROUP: Canada - Atlantic Region

Are OB members not from Atlantic Canada welcome? I don't want to interfere but there are many places throughout the world, especially in North America where I'd like to go Overlanding someday.

    Overlanding Tips for Latin America

Excellent ideas Eric. I think a lot of this is common sense anywhere in the world, not just in Latin America.

Trip Planning - Where to go in the Northwest

Oregon is great, I spent about 3 weeks there some years ago but didn't get far from the coast. Currently, the plan is to fill in my time between AK and going to Descend on Bend, a van event (I'm into vans even if the vehicle I have in the US is something else) at the end of August. Followed up...

    Camp security

I think a lot depends on the location. In some places, you can leave everything set up and in some places, you wouldn't. Put your valuables away. Most people won't mess with your vehicle and items attached to it. They are more likely to pick up items just laying around. Think like a potential...

Trip Planning - Where to go in the Northwest

That's good information. And knowing about the permit is always better in advance.

Trip Planning - Where to go in the Northwest

There aren't any deserts here in Tasmania, our climate is similar to the PNW, currently with lots of snow here this winter. There are plenty of deserts on the list elsewhere in the US though. The rough route plan, at this stage, takes me to Tuktoyaktuk in late June/early July then back via AK...

Trip Planning - Where to go in the Northwest

I'm planning a trip to North America. It probably won't happen for a couple of years. I'd like to have a good idea of what my itinerary might be as it will help with visa applications and I also don't want to waste my limited time in the US. I have a couple of events that I plan to attend, in...

    Australians, Where are you?

Is your member number your old AUS postcode? I lived in the original Button's House, out the front of the copperware workshop, on Eastland Drive for a while.

    G'day from Hobart.

US West Ham Radio Weekly NET

For some reason, the net has largely defaulted to me running it. If we had more people volunteering to run the net it would be able to run more regularly. Everyone with a HAM licence is qualified to run the net. In fact, it is an excellent way for new HAMs to get operating confidence. This...

What are some options for good gas mileage in overlanding vehicles?

Antiquated unit of fuel consumption. Some day the US will go metric.

Are you an active member in Tasmania?

G'day, I am just wondering if Tasmanian OB members are monitoring this forum? Post a reply to let me know you're out there. I'm also keen to know if you think the OB forum is the best way to disperse information or should we set up a Facebook group like OB Queensland. I'd also like to know...

    Friday Night HAM Radio NET

G'Day, The Friday night net can no longer run on the *STARLINK* Echolink Server and there will be no net tonight (April-8) I'll be hanging out tonight on the old *USA-GNG* server if anybody would like to contact me with feedback on what happens next.

What are some options for good gas mileage in overlanding vehicles?

My vehicle isn't available in the US, so it won't help you much. But the VW "Computer with a 4wd van attached" regulates the average fuel usage to around 26mpg (9l/100km). I don't push it that hard, fuel is too expensive nowadays, but supposedly if you drive it too hard the ECU lowers...

    Digital inclinometer

I think the gauge / digital versions are designed to override your version and convince you that your rig won't really fall over for another 1 degree of angle.

    Texas

If you were in a place, known for its warm dry climate, cattle, rodeos, even some historical border disputes and it was called Texas you would be in well, Texas, right? But this Texas is not Texas in the USA, it's Texas in Queensland Australia.
