Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
My main interest in a RTT is so camp setup/tear down is less of a hassle and to get up off the ground when in the desert.
A roof top tent is a big expense. I have been thinking about getting one for a while, like I'm sure many of you have. If you are in the Bay Area, Tepui Tents does rentals...
Really, for an extended trip I find having a fridge and an ice chest is a good combo if you have the room. All perishable food goes in the fridge and drinks go in the ice chest. If you put 1 lb of dry ice covered in cube ice on the bottom of the ice chest it keeps drinks cold for many days.
I like having two GPS going when I'm out. One is my Garmin GPSmap 62s and the other is an iPad Mini running GaiaGPS connected to a Bad Elf Bluetooth GPS receiver. This combination lets me have high resolution mapping in the vehicle and also grab-n-go mapping with the Garmin.
I was wondering if anyone has found any good 4x4 classes, and whether anyone can provide recommendations. I'm looking for something organized with a mix of theory and practice. Maybe some recovery training too.
I found one company offering training in So Cal, but haven't found any in Nor Cal...
I really like that idea. Right now I have three circuits run from in the cab up to the engine bay near the fuse block. A Blue Sea 6 circuit fuse block in the cab would be a good idea. How did you run the power from the cab to the engine bay? I was nervous about trying to run it through the...
I have a dual battery bracket/hold down from Armor Tech Offroad and two Optima Yellow Top group 34 batteries waiting for installation in a few weeks.
I am going to be using the IBS battery system to control the charging.
I am mounting a Blue Sea 12 circuit fuse block under the hood...
Today I installed the wiring for a CB radio and a rear seat USB charging port in my Tacoma. In the process I also removed an aftermarket head unit that I am planning to replace.
As usual, the project took longer than I expected, but I'm happy with the results. Now to get the dual battery...
I have the Snow Peak and love it. There are many places where a ground fire is not permitted but this is. It packs flat, has a grill (optional) for cooking up a steak, and radiates a lot of heat. I highly recommend it.
This weekend I ran a dedicated 12v circuit to the driver side rear seat of my Tacoma to power an ARB 50 qt fridge. Removed the rear seat to make enough room for the fridge.
A few months ago my 2007 Tacoma started to develop some clear coat failure and rust spots on the roof. At the same time the fiberglass camper shell also started to have clear coat failure on the roof. My hunch is one of the chemicals in the car wash I use was actually a degreaser and it did a...
I considered that too. It will have to be unbolted and moved out of the way when the windshield needs to be replaced. I think the same issue exists for the ditch light brackets some people run in that same location, but I would like to hear from someone who has them.
Today I am one step closer to installing a CB in the Tacoma. I purchased and installed a CBI drivers side antenna bracket. Next step is to order a Firestik.
Yesterday (Saturday August 20, 2016) I drove the Corral Hollow trail and when I got to the Now famous OB campsite overlooking the Bear Valley Ski Resort I found a very nice LED flashlight on the ground. Given how many OB members are running that trail, I thought it might belong to a member...
Have you looked in this book? I have not done Corral Hollow (want to; not sure if I'm ready to), but they list that trail and many more. All carry a rating so it may be possible to find similar ones using the book...
