  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

2007 Honda Pilot Off Road Build

Holy smokes! Even with two coolers plus the internal, it still overheated?! That's nuts. I haven't heard of anyone doing an LSD for the pilot, but I seem to recall someone working on something similar for the RD1 CR-V. Check Lifted Honda Society on Facebook. I deleted my account so I can't look...

2007 Honda Pilot Off Road Build

Time to install a supplementary tranny oil cooler! Is your pilot set up like the CR-V where it has an oil cooler built into the radiator? Or just no supplementary cooling?

Dometic Fridge in Pickup Bed and Bear Country

During our Kitsault expedition, there were bears everywhere. We came back to camp after our day in Alice Arm to find that they had been digging for grubs about ten feet behind my tent. We had zero issues with them, however, because we were extremely careful about not letting a single crumb fall...

Welcome to the Western Canada thread

Awesome part of BC to be exploring, I must say, especially if you include a boat of some sort in your travels. I'm jelly of your ability to be out for that long! If you have any interest in the local history of the Sunshine Coast, two awesome reads are Tales from Hidden Basin and Haunted...

    SVO ....Small Vehicle Overlanding

c Oh that was for sure the golden age of Honda. I owned a 98 Civic hatch back stick shift and dang was that car fun to drive.

    SVO ....Small Vehicle Overlanding

One of the things I find the most fun about off roading the CR-V is the challenge. Because it doesn't have massive flex, sway bar disconnects, locking diffs, or even low range or selectable 4wd, it forces you to be a better driver. Things like line selection, throttle control and tire placement...

    SVO ....Small Vehicle Overlanding

It would be fun to have a "Misfit Overlanders" thread. Lifted Cadillac Eldorado anyone? Lol

    SVO ....Small Vehicle Overlanding

I wonder if it was an OB member you saw, because someone on this forum with a lifted AWD Sienna with a tire carrier etc. Minivans are definitely among the most versatile vehicles out there. Definitely not a Small Vehicle Overlander though. I can't speak for everyone, but my feeling is that this...

    SVO ....Small Vehicle Overlanding

Given how tiny the Willie's and it's civilian iteration the CJ are, my vote is that they qualify as SVO's. I for one would love to see an overland build on one of these.

    1999 Honda CR-V - "Ganbaru"

You know, in thinking about my rig, I definitely spoke too soon in saying I didn't have much else to do. A few more mods came to my mind recently that I had somewhat forgotten. 1. Light bar along the front of the roof rack, preferably hidden under the flip up wind faring, paired with small...

    1999 Honda CR-V - "Ganbaru"

I always use the German torque spec: gudentight. Lol If you want to get them to the correct spec, it should be listed online. Search up "RD1 CR-V engine mount bolt torque spec" and you should find it pretty quickly. Lots of guys mod CR-V's both for off road and high performance, interestingly...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

High precision wheel well modification with the Persuaderator 3000. The big fat tires were rubbing only just slightly at full lock in the front. Freakin' mint, boys!

    1999 Honda CR-V - "Ganbaru"

Made use of the highly precise Persuaderator 3000 today to correct some minor tire rubbing inside the front wheel wells, as well as massage the rear ones to make them a bit better as well. As the saying goes: freakin' mint.

    1999 Honda CR-V - "Ganbaru"

I wouldn't worry too much about it for local driving, but personally I wouldn't want to drive on any long haul hwy drives. My axles were vibrating pretty badly at speed to the point that it felt disconcerting, but now everything seems fine. It seems unlikely that a catastrophic failure would...

Very true. There's not too much else I need to do to the rig in terms of mods now. I'm thinking I will probably rebuild my awning with a bigger tarp, and there may be a few other minor changes as well. Probably install a UHF resource road radio sometime soon.

Thanks! Even with the drifter stitches, I'm much happier with how this looks than the hack job I did initially.

General Observations about the influx of people to the outdoor world

Fantastic! What a shot. I have to agree with you about going remote in the bush - I love getting way out where people never go. It's an awesome feeling, and it definitely adds to the excitement of the trip, especially when you know the bears are all around you lol

    1999 Honda CR-V - "Ganbaru"

Well, got everything wired up, the synthetic rope tensioned on the spool, and the bumper (re)finished. Rockauto wanted to charge me $750 for shipping a $58 bumper skin, Lordco wanted $450 for one, and the two local wreckers wanted $100 and $200 respectively, so I decided that drifter's stitches...
