Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Yep. Fully covered. Thing is that it is an '07 with over 130k on it. For what it is worth Blue Book it would be really hard to replace.
Plus I am the original owner and I really like it. I am hoping to take it well over 200k and get a few more years out of it.

So after some strategic cutting with the chainsaw and some creative rigging we were able to dig out and assess the damage. Looking like it is mostly glass and body damage with just a little interior damage.
Also lost my antennas. The stock one is easy enough.
But the Ham radio ones are a...
The Monsoons are here and have taken its toll. We had a big wind that snaped our Mesquite tree off at the roots. It then picked it up out of the hole and put it on top of my Xterra.
The tree is a loss but what will happen to my beloved Xterra. They literally don't make them like this...
Are talking front or rear. Just discovered my rear is snaped so pulling it off. Did not even notice until I saw it.

Hummm..... mine cane with these and I eventually took them off. I kept thinking what if I were to loos the key or something out on the trail and needed to pull a tire? I guess I like keeping things simple. I also run on pretty boring wheels so I don't worry about someone snatching them.
One...
40m in daytime and 80m at night.
I have built a basic wire antenna based on one by K6SOJ http://www.hamuniverse.com/k6sojnvis.html. It is quick and easy to deploy. Packs down small. And being a home brew project it was as expensive as you want to make it.

Upgrade is the lesson there. It will open up all kinds of opportunities.
For short distance HF you should try a little cloud warning with an NVIS antenna. Or so I am told. I have one I home brewed to use with my truck but have not really had much luck with it. In theory it should be good for...
Oh don't feel bad for me. I'll take temps pushing and even exceeding 120°. I don't need to fly anywhere any how. With the single digit humidity.
I don't start whining until the monsoons start. Even with that the humidity isn't really that bad compered to other places where the air is thick and...
What are hitting the trails in?
Here in Phoenix I try to draw the line at 112° on the motorcycle. After that it is time to just stay in the off road rig with it's AC. One strategy we take is leaving early and head up to the high country. Then stay up there till the sun is going down and then...
Looks like I may be wrong about Garmin. Just looked in the Play Store and it looks like they have some sort of back country top app now. I will have to give it a try.

I hear ya on Backcountry Navigator (BN). I have been using for a few years now. I don't even run my old Garmain because I really like the maps I can upload in BN. I am running it on an old LG something or another that I inherited when my wife upgraded to a newer tablet.
I find that it does a...

I got to spend the weekend doing a father/daughter camping trip with another father/daughter Duo. It was their first time camping. (The 6 year old that is).

I may have to pick up an 80m. I have not played with one. Switching out caps is kind of what the tuner does so that might be a solution. Might go with MFJ version because the whips look to be a little more flexible.

Yep. One thing that I found out that the tuner I have does not like tuning an already matched Antenna. That is why I was running with the tuner a little further away with some extra wire to throw things out of whack.
The tuner idea seems like a good bit of magic in theory. I seem to have...
Sorry Terry. I think I miss read your question. I was trying to use an Antenna tuner with a tall whip for work HF. As the last post stated, it did not work out all that well. I could not really getting he rig to tune up all that well.
I wanted something that was durable and a screwdriver...
As I remember it, I just put it through the thicker part of the step and backed it with a washer. Next time I crawl under there I'll take a look. Because the counter pose ground at the tuner I just had the feed line running to it. I wanted to keep it isolated so no metal bits attached to the...
