  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

What do you use to store all your gear?

I think I am going to my local Northern Tool and check these Old Milwaukee's out since they are in-stock and $20 off coupon. Hard to tell on-line how the locking system works but looks promising when I get a roof rack. They fit my height requirements perfectly. I also have a DiamondBack cover...

Ya'll don't need any of those cheapass fuel cans! THIS is what I would maybe LIKE to have, but...

    Propane Tank Sizes

I just got a five lb. and it's the same connection as a twenty pound tank. Not sure how big the tank before it would change?? Anything portable probably the same brass screw connection.

What is your favorite overland/camp stove?

Yes, Gear Junkie should be my handle. You got me thinking about all the ones I have. Multiples of alcohol, butane mix, white gas, propane, pretty sure there's some sterno around somewhere. Just mounted a 5 lb. cylinder for the two burner Coleman and carry a backpacking one for backup and...

    Escapod Topo-Series

Nice! With a RTT it will be a two story camper! I hadn't noticed that being a capability for the teardrop design but I like it. I may sell my boat in a year or two and get something like that. Do you have to pay property taxes on those??

    New Tuffstuff Alpha Thoughts...

Had an annex with my first one but never used it. I generally don't stay in one place long enough to justify the hassle. And, it was kind of heavy/bulky too. They do have a floor. People with kids and dogs seem to get the most use from them. If I were using a trailer setup it might be more...

Hike-In/Walk-in Only Campsite Trend? Why is this happening?

Yeah, but they are more busy supporting us old geezers collecting social security that have the time and money to now do what we want. And we want more vehicle accessible dispersed camping....dammit! I vote more different camping opportunities for everyone. I'm a boomer and you better listen...

Hike-In/Walk-in Only Campsite Trend? Why is this happening?

There are other opportunities if you look: Free Tent Camping in South Carolina https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/scnfs/recreation/camping-cabins/?recid=47051&actid=29 Not all NF are in Appalachia.

Hike-In/Walk-in Only Campsite Trend? Why is this happening?

I had a good trip to some NF land in N. Georgia last fall and found quite a few opportunities for dispersed camping. I have also noticed that in some areas of North and South Carolina mountains many of the FS side roads are gated and locked leaving not much opportunity to explore and dispersed...

Do you really need heated seats and remote start?

I wish I still had the heated steering wheel. I have a battery powered handwarmer now so when it's cold down here in the frozen southland :grinning: Cold hands are kind of achy and sticking them under your arms or between the legs in traffic is problematic. The heated seats are nice on a...

35-45 Days on the Road with 3 kids - 2 Dogs - a Subaru and a Trailer?? 6000+ miles - Are WE CRAZY?

If you're not already there's a fair chance you will be :grinning: At the very least you are incredibly brave! Good Luck on your adventure. It should spinoff some interesting stories!

    almost undefeatable fire stater

The best "fat wood" around here comes from old growth longleaf pine. The stumps from trees cut 100+ years ago are still scattered through the woods. When I have a chain for the saw that is at the end of it's life and can't be sharpened anymore I will cut a few short lengths from a stump so that...

    New Tuffstuff Alpha Thoughts...

I like mine. Big improvement from the soft top. I did get the anti-condensation mat recently because I was having some moisture during cool weather and didn't want to be taking time to dry it out in the middle of a trip because it was not going to dry left alone.. Moisture is a problem anytime...

    tuff stuff alpha mounting help

"The hole in the bracket"? Bolts too long? Picture might help. I have an ALPHA but not familiar with the FR rack. The brackets on the alpha need to fit around something. I usually have to acquire different length bolts if there is limited clearance. Four brackets and eight bolts and nuts...

    Bigfoot

I see Bigfoot fairly often. He lives next door on my cul-de-sac and works for the sheriffs department. Nice enough but doesn't say much.
