Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I don't think it is fair to say only in Germany.
California requires you to take an online class to get your campfire permit.
If you give the bureaucracy a chance, they will regulate the fun out of everything. Self-regulating is the best if we can be consistent about it.
I guess I am spoiled out here in the Western United States. There are lots of public lands that are open to the public. Buy even in the wild wild west there are rules, best practices, and etiquette.
Heavy-handed regulations tend to punish and frustrate the people who try to do the right...
Next time your up that way look at camping at Lockett Meadow. You'll be inside the calder of the volcano that forms the San Francisco Mts. If you look at the topography, it is very similar to Mt. Saint Helens.
There also some fun lava tunes around you can check out to get out of the heat for...
I'd be interested but live in Tempe. If you are just talking about a social gathering maybe somewhere a little more centeraly located.
If you have some good trails out that part of the valley to share then why not!
Is the reservation through the park or a third-party? If it is through then park call them and tell them what you want to do. If it is through a third party you may have to cancel it and try rebooking.
We did a trip to Dinasore National Monument a couple of years ago I found we wanted to...
I have a EFHW portable. I was talking more about truly mobile. Bi have never found the 80M ham stick to tune up very well. The 80M rig is more for camping when there is more time to play with a set up.... relax with a cold drink.... play on the radio. Sounds like I need to go camping.
I
I'd be up for doing something on a weekend when we can go mountain toping with the mobile HF Rig. 75m is a hard one to do as a mobile, but 40M and 20M would work. Just a limited signal footprint unless the conditions are right.
I can't tell you anything about the boarder crossing. There are lifted trucks all over the Western United States. If you are driving responsible and not drawing attention to yourself, I don't see why you would have any issues.
Oh yeah. If you have the time and means take the train from Durango to Silverton. You'll get to see country you really can't access any other way other than hard-core hiking. We even saw a bear.
Got to spend the day exploring off the beaten path up on the Chief Joseph Hiway. Traversed Bald Ridge at the top of the pass.
Going into the Park tomorrow (Yellowstone). Not too many off reading options there, but the geyser basin is a must see for the 10 year old.
It was cold and rainy. The snow melt is still on in the hills above, so the rivers are pretty swollen, and all the little waterfalls are going. Being from the desert, that was all a real treat.
