Thank you!
Yes I 100% understand that this is not a build for everyone. It lacks a lot of the comfort of most overland vehicles but keeps up with my rock crawler buddies. I use to have a CK1500 blazer back in high school that I lived out of for a while because I was kicked out my my house. used...
That sounds awesome. If budget allows it in the next couple years I will likely put a fridge in the back on a slide, but for now I have to stick with coolers which isn't a big deal for me. I still need to do a second battery as a backup for gear/booster if mine dies, and I want to mount an...
Probably true around here and I do understand why. Unfortunately I don't have the time at the moment and as mentioned I am really just hoping they make it through next weekend and I can have the whole thing looked over again
Found both of my tapered inserts had broken loose from the inside of the knuckle and needed to be re-welded. I am hoping these last through next weekend with my cheapo welder. It's earning it's keep this weekend. Drag link and tie rod inserts removed ground down and re attached and it drives...
Well my last weekend go get the jeep ready for its weekend of abuse. Needed to change out ball joints, check bearings and a few other things. Found a crack in a front lower shock mount that needed to be welded up and found that one of the tapered inserts in the passenger steering knuckle needs...
I still need to re-locate the radio up top and will need to extend my power cable to do so. I am hoping that I have enough coax to get it there. I'll probably find out today when I get into it again. I need to do the ball joints and wheel bearings and then stick all of my roll bar padding back...
Not an "overland" mod but I figured a bit of extra safety wouldn't hurt. Once this next trip is done I plan to remove the basket in the back and put the back seat in again. Then again with the harness bar installed I may just leave it as long as I need this way. Stayed late and worked with a...
This Jeep stays mainly within Canada, sometimes venturing into the US for trails or camp but not often as I don't get vacation time or ave the funds to take longer trips out. maybe i should call it a "back 40 buggy" as it sees hours of highway miles before getting to the trails and then spending...
unfortunately with the price of extended range tanks its not in the budget, my fuel tank also has a really heavy skid plate because well... LJs are tail draggers. At the moment I carry a few race cans that gives me an extra tank if need be. I carry them empty until I know I am going out of range...
I have considered a trailer and have borrowed a trailer from a buddy that has a RTT mounted on it once a year for the past .. 6 years? I have come to really dislike the RTT so I don't borrow it anymore, and I pack as light as I can and basically bring only what I need. this comes from doing a...
I never thought I would get so torched for not having a bolt on parts rig. With a title like " rock crawler to overlander" what did people expect? It's a work in progress that I still plan on adding to with dual battery setup and a better exhaust, more power outlets inside. But maybe it's not...
This is exactly it. It is my hobby rock crawler with a few creature comforts and storage built in for longer travel use. I have driven 8-10 highway hours at a time in it and spent days at a time on trails.
This vehicle is build to go places most others won't. It's a rock crawler/offroad trail runner first as that is it's primary use, overland vehicle second.
You are right, in those places I probably wouldn't find spare parts, however anywhere in north America I can find what I need, and I don't plan to take it anywhere else. Unfortunately I don't get vacation time and I don't make a whole lot of money to save up to take the time off. I rent vehicles...
Yep. The hammock is definately my go to! I have all my gear for a shelter and goo night sleep all packed I to a standard backpack. I even threw in a fishing rod and tackle because there was room to spare.
I have driven this on looong trips before, wheeled for a weekend ( in a different country) and then drove home. It's not the most comfortable drive but it gets me everywhere I need to go. It has a few things added for camping and comfort... But not much. I am prepping it to drive across our...
Sta
Standard companion. I have a carbon steel version for my pack, a stainless steel version for my car, and the bushcraft black I pack on every trip. It's basically a companion with a fire steel and sharpener built into the sheath and a think may be a tad thicker.
I carry either a mora companion, or mora bushcraft black. I love the mora knives and have been using them for years. even after buying other knives to try to find a better fit, they just never compare for me.
