No question, a really stout bumper like an ARB gives more protection than a stock one. It also adds more weight and costs more than a brush guard. A stout bumper might save you where a brush guard won’t if you have a significant impact. But there is this line of reasoning I’ve heard that a brush...
Central Sierra
Firestone model 9287 compressor, used
$175 OBO
Buyer to pay if shipped, I'll be at Overland Expo West all three days and can meet there, or can meet in central CA for the right deal.
This was purchased as part of my air bag set-up for my Tacoma and also used for on-board air. It...
I got the four person just because I didn’t see any real advantage to the three. Myself, my wife, each of our bags, the 80-pound dog and his bed all fit with room to spare. And I never gave a darn about a tent I could stand up in, but now that I have one I like it.
I would never encourage anyone to undertake any kind of recreation they feel is unsafe. I would tell you that I have crossed that spot in my unmodifed Tacoma when I believe the water was deeper and I did not have any trouble.
A friend is planning to head to Mojave this weekend 3/16. He has never been. We’re getting together Friday so I can help him plan.
I’m wondering about current conditions, especially the water level at the crossing and the passability of Soda Lake.
Thanks for any current information you can...
I’d prefer an interchangeable lens, but that may be asking too much. Basically I’m looking for an after dark light for cooking that won’t draw as many bugs.
I’m looking for small clip on (with a clamp, not for hanging on a cord) light that has a “bug light” type colored lens. Can’t find one, probably because they don’t exist. Anyone seen anything like that?
Thanks
All I can say is, as a new HAM, every HAM I’ve met so far is so eager to talk to new people and “Spread the Gospel of HAM,” if you’re not getting a response it is UNDOUBTEDLY because no one is hearing you. Good luck finding your solution.
60 liter. It’s surprisingly high quality considering it’s from Sportsman’s Guide. I don’t generate that much waste, so it’s plenty big enough for me. Around ten person-days, maybe?
I have two plastic bags, one for trash and one for recycling, that I store inside a dry bag from Sportsman’s Guide. I usually take them out and hang them off something while active in camp and put them back in the dry bag for overnight and traveling.
Given the nature of this forum I would guess that you keep yourselves as ready as possible, but to me that is really one of the keys. I can’t keep my rig ready to go all the time, but I can get it ready quickly and that really helps me mentally.
I have no direct experience with RotoPax. I understand them to be very high quality and the chances of having a problem with them inside your vehicle are extremely slim. Of course if you do have a problem you might burn to death. This risk/benefit ratio doesn’t work for me.
I’ve gone the cheapo route. I’ve got a small cooler, an “Island Breeze,” inside my larger cooler. I cover the frozen food I put inside it with a high quality cooler brick and a closed-cell foam pad. In moderate weather I’ve had food stay frozen for five days. No where near as good as a real...
Beware that the route I downloaded to Gaia from our OB approved route forum is incorrect. It inexplicably takes you off the actual road and off on a tangent where there’s no actual roads. Also it doesn’t show the whole route. It was very frustrating for me. I guess the lesson is that you always...
I did an absolute sh_t ton of research before buying a NoCo GB40. A lot of other makers have good website reviews and then on purchasing sites there are a significant number of reviews that say the unit failed on them. The GB40 seemed like the best choice for me based on review sites and...
Planning five nights out with a friend who uses a CPAP. Five nights is too many for him to do without it.
He has an inverter, but my Tacoma’s cigarette lighter is not powered when the rig is off.
It appears the inverter can plug into the 12 V out on my NoCo Genius Boost 40.
I cannot find...
EDIT - Sorry, after posting I see that you have directed this question to Dr Solis. I didn’t know one could do that. I’m leaving my answer up anyway. Sorry if I have screwed this up.
I hope Dr. Solis or another more informed person will weigh in with a more expert and informed opinion, but...
Nothing new to add here, but another “Yes” vote. I haven’t had it in the rain or wind yet but I think it’ll be fine. 12 tie-down points ought to handle a lot of wind.
Here’s a quick video I made showing setup;
