New build - JKU Rubicon or Diesel ZR2?

The funny thing is you are worried about gas milage on the jk with 35's but you are going to put a RTT on. The RTT will kill your gas milage. Why does the Jeep need 35's and the Colorado only need 33's? My view, first background. I lived in south sub of Chicago for 50 years, now live in Mesa...

    Handheld Ham Radio Adivce

I'm learning and really want to do the right thing, so my question is... You have a ham lic and a GMRS lic. You have a ham radio that's been modified for use on GMRS. Your statement above makes it sound like it is okay to use the ham radio with GMRS if you follow the rules for channel and...

    HAM for newbies

I'm new to the ham thing too. Will probably take the test in a month or two. Can some one tell me how useful APRS is for overlanding? From what I have read it seems cool and would be useful for friends or family to follow along like they could do with a In-reach or Spot. But will that only work...

    Arizona Overlanders

With the gov shutdown we haven’t got haven’t got the permit and the lock combination. And with my shoulder injury we haven’t had a chance to look for other spots. We tried over the weekend but the pain is still to bad to be driving off-road. Todd

    Arizona Overlanders

Give me the weekend to see if I can work it out. I have an injury that may need surgery and should know more after an MRI. The other problem is with the gov shut down I can't get a permit for the area I was planning to go. I'm PM you. Todd

    Arizona Overlanders

Never said I don't want to go because it is too far. My wife works that Saturday and will have the Jeep is the main reason. I'm also building a teardrop and until that is done probably won't be doing any overnights. You also assumed the meet up I set up was in a mall parking lot which it wasn't...

    Arizona Overlanders

Sorry for the late reply, I was in California over the weekend. I see you set it up for the 1st weekend. That is great, I don't have time to get that far away right now. I'm still building my camper and that is most free time I have right now. I just wanted to get a local meet and greet set up...

    RV insurance for your overlander

That is great information. I have another question for you. I'm building a overland teardrop camper. Any tips on getting insurance for a home built camper? I know I want to declare a low build cost for getting license plates. If I say under $1000 it is a very easy process. But if someone rear...

Anyone sleep in their truck bed? (No shell)

I did it for awhile, It works for the pros you listed. But there are some con's. If people who drive by in the middle of the night, seem to want to check out the truck parked off the road. Have a cap or put up a tent they just keep going by. If there are people close by, no where to get...

    Here is my teardrop build.

Next up was I worked on power in the galley. I had to make a panel for meter, and switches. I put in a connector to the the galley so if I ever need to take the hatch off it's easy to disconnect the wiring. One of the things I wanted was a third high brake light. So I took some...

Who has built there own Overlad Trailer?

I am building now and can give you some info. I am building a teardrop. I have a build thread in the trailer forum. Axel I went with Timbren. I have read good things about them, I liked that thy make a set perfect for an off road trailer. 2000#, 4" lift, 3500# spindle, brakes. Lots of ground...

    Sleep System

My wife and I use the Downmat 9 also. But we also use a BA Cabin Creek double bag. The best thing we have bought for camping. We've used it to the mid 20's and were fine. With the pads we can get them just as comfortable as our Sleep Comfort bed. Nothing better than playing footies while camping...

    Idea for charging house battery

Thanks for the replies everyone. I got the Jeep's manual out today and the built in inverter is only 150 watts. So I can't use that for my battery charger which draws 188 watts. I'm going to see if I can return the AC charger I have and get the CTEK DC to DC charger. Since it is also a MTTP...

    Idea for charging house battery

I know there is a loss if using an inverter off a battery but if running off an inverter while driving I would have an endless supply of power. And I would have an optimum charge using a smart charger. I wouldn't get that charging off the Jeep battery and if I go with AGM I may not get a full...
