Things slowed down a bit over the holidays, but now we're back at it! Today we did a simple addition: a large medical kit and fire extinguisher, mounted where easily accessible (but not stealable!) in the cab. We have more projects in the works; we're just waiting for everything to ship!
I did something similar, with 1/4-20 threaded rod through my roof rack cross bars and plastic knobs from the local Ace Hardware to secure the boards down. I used a spare gun cable lock threaded through the four boards for modest security.
Thanks everyone for accommodating our attempt to make it! Hopefully the weather holds for us here in the high country and we can make it down to this! We've talked a lot about being able to drop the trailer for more technical runs in general, so this might be a good time to try the concept. I...
I was debating jumping in on this and bringing our Hiker trailer as well. I don't think any of the Saturday trails are technical, and we could always park the trailer for the OHV trails on Sunday.
I've always wanted limb risers. Do I need them? Probably not. But I like the look and ultimately it's cheap insurance since I spent maybe $25 on this whole project. I found a 100 foot spool of black plastic-coated stainless steel wire on Amazon (wire OD 1/16", coated OD about 1/8") that even...
With our change of focus to have camping-type stuff on our trailer, the roof rack had become very... bare. There was just a pair of traction boards on the rails held down with ratchet straps, and the whole roofline was now lower than the toolbox that is on the bed rack so it looked uneven and...
+1 on The Milepost. I lived in Anchorage for a few years and drove to and from Alaska for our move there and back. It's a lot more info than just the main highway - it has details on all of the major roads. As far as getting off pavement - there's plenty of opportunities. Dig out a map and...
All, since our new camper came with a 270 degree awning we're selling the 23Zero Peregrine 180R awning with wall kit we had mounted on our truck roof rack. Only used one season and it's in great shape; includes the 180R awning (Peregrine 180 Awning With Light Supression Technology | 23ZERO) and...
I picked up a Chinese "Fusion 5" 10" tablet with GPS off of Amazon back in June and ran it all summer as my go-to mapping tablet. It's not fast but it did the job multiple trips including a big loop of the Rimrocker trail through Utah. Couldn't beat the price.
So, we added a piece of equipment that is going to change how the truck is set up for overlanding. Here's our Hiker Trailer 5x8 Midrange Off Road trailer!
We bought the trailer as basically a "shell" to be upgraded the way we wanted: robust solar power for a fridge, more aggressive tires and...
I'm game. What do you want to find out? I have a 70cm repeater on Sacramento Mountain above Fairplay in South Park that doesn't get used much, so make sure you have that!
So I've been working on a few minor projects as of late. With winter darkness approaching, it's all about the lighting! First off, I was going to get the bracket from AEV and replace the fog lights with good LED units. The bracket itself is about $50 and that's not so bad, but quality lights...
