    A Word on Wiring

This is exactly why I bring this up. For many folks wire is just wire. The nuances are only obvious to those who are informed. I hope this helps inform some who will someday need to know the differences.

    LOL! Love it.

    A Word on Wiring

Not all wire is equal. I loaned out my crimpers so a friend could re-do some wiring in his trailer. When he showed me his final work I suspect I broke his heart when I pointed out what type of wire he used vs. what type of wire he should have used. He used THHN (the sort you would get at the...

    "What the FWOK? is that?"

Nice work. I especially like the tripod arrangement. That was not initially in my plans, but I think you have been a bad influence. Now I am going to have to buy some more steel.

    "What the FWOK? is that?"

Love it. I am on the same path. Picked up a disc at the steel recyclying center a month or so ago. Have yet to scounge up the other pieces. Just a matter of time and being in the right place at the right time.

Wood working help in the PNW

It doesn't sound like you are interested in driving as far as southwestern Idaho, but if you are willing then send me a PM. I could help.

If you're going to ask "what vehicle is best..."

Do you mean I need to think about it before I ask? That's no fun. :yum:

What are some options for good gas mileage in overlanding vehicles?

I hate to break this to you, but overlanding and fuel economy are kind of mutually exclusive. If you want fuel economy look into a motorcycle and learn to travel light.

    Pulled over

Of all the potential Overland Bound products, that should be at the top of the list. I would buy one. ETA: It should come as part of the sign-up package. However, to do it correctly, the grammar should be fixed. It should read "I wish it were faster too." So few people understand the use...

    Dangerous National Parks

No wonder you are always looking for a kid. I can easily imagine how you need your own SAR team. My hat is off to you for taking on such a challenge. You have been blessed with many arrows in your quiver.

    Dangerous National Parks

You need a dog. Particularly a dog of the shepherd flavor. When I don't know where a Varmint is, all I have to do is pay attention to where the dogs are paying attention. Then I know which way to go.

    Dangerous National Parks

Nice job putting that together. Looking at the list in that fashion I am struck by the fact that of the top 25, those that are not also on the "dangerous list" appear to be much closer to population centers than those that are on the "dangerous list".

    Dangerous National Parks

So very true. I was at a conference where the keynote speaker was an Oklahoma native, presenting to a bunch of us Kalifornians. The speaker noted that back in the '30s a bunch of folks packed up and moved from Oklahoma to Kalifornia (overlanders?), thereby increasing the average IQ in both...

    Dangerous National Parks

The gene pool needs a bit of chlorine every now and then.

    Dangerous National Parks

Hmm... Another thought about those parks: Those are all in the west. I wonder who are the victims? Folks from the east perhaps? Could it be that street smarts are of no use whatsoever once some folks leave the safety of their cities?

    Dangerous National Parks

If you were to assemble a list of National Parks ranked by numbers of visitors per year I suspect it would correlate well with a list of the parks ranked by danger. I just try to stay away from people.

    Handy Tools

Gaa!! Not one of those evil things. If that wasn't developed by the Marquis de Sade himself then it was a close relative. Just as a drill press is great for snatching items out of your hand and whipping them right back into your hand that device is great for relocating a thistle right onto...

    Who likes a big rack?

Thank you. EMT gets no love, but it can be handy stuff.

    Who likes a big rack?

Sadly, as one might fear regarding an unnaturally large rack, it's not real. Here is today's progress: The upper part is 10 year old PVC. Originally the entire thing was PVC, but it developed some failures this past year. I think the EMT will hold up better. I need to pick up a handful of...
