Hey all, heading to Chile/Argentina for a few weeks next winter. Rough plan is to rent a 4x4(Landcruiser or similar) in Santiago head south along the coast, through the Patagonia region, into Tierra Del Fuego to Ushuaia, and head back up north through Argentina, back to Santiago(possibly up to...
I like to keep it simple. Contains cream and sugar, just need to boil water and go. If I need to beef it up, a spoonful of instant, or a shot of fireball helps out. Also great if I decide to go backpacking.
Unless you have a dedicated off road rig where the following doesn't matter, lighter aluminum makes more sense to me, as it saves fuel, reduces wear and tear on the vehicle, allows for more gear storage, and still protects from all but the most serious of damage, and doesn't rust. For those of...
definitely a plus for being cooler in the summer, somewhat keeps out curious eyes when travelling. front windows are much lighter tint for easier seeing. If I'm seriously backing up on a trail in the daark, I prefer to get out and look anyways.
I went with Light Racing UCAs, and have been happy with them. They were needed to get the front alignment back into spec. I'm not sure if it is required with a level. All in all have been happy with the performance of the OME, very smooth ride on road, gravel roads and off road.
Hey, I can't give you much about the actual install as my FJ came with the 3" OME lift when I bought it. Check out the FJ cruiser forum(aka the Blue Room) for detailed install info. The only change I would look into is to get a new set of Front upper control arms if go with the lift.
My rear control arms are stock, I only did the front UCAs for better alignment. I am looking at doing the rear LCAs as I did get a very slight bow in one after going through some hairy rocks in South Dakota this summer.
I've got OME shocks and 3" lift on mine, love the ride and performance of these shocks. I'm sure just stock heights would be great as well. 6 years of abuse and they are still holding up well.
Also remember certain off limit areas for pets. On our Newfoundland trip, the dog was good to come on most of our hikes, but the climb at Gros Morne National Park was off limits as it is a caribou birthing area. Luckily found a reputable kennel to watch him for the day.
Had his guy wander in behind 2 does during ML season this year. Had to sit frozen in my tree stand for about half an hour while the does came in to a scrape I was sitting on. They kept looking behind them, so I figured he was back there some where. Had to aim and fire with one of the does under...
I'm interested, but have to see what happens. Parents have hinted they may come out from BC near the end of September, then into fall training in Wainwright October-November.
