Youtube

Hi, how come there aren't videos like there were a couple of years back?
I appreciate you asking. We chose to focus on our kids and get them both through high school. Now that the youngest is 19, we're starting to wrap our brain around getting the 80 back in order and exploring again.

If that makes us rats or chamois wringers in the eyes of internet strangers, so be it. Family will always come first. In the meantime, we have kept our focus on the 2.0 version of this little corner of the internet and will keep on building.

I respect that and appreciate that very much. Ive always enjoyed the family videos you guys put out. Now that my little ones are passed the diaper stage, they are getting into these kind of things. Your response actually explains a lot. Just know that your content is missed and appreciated. Especially with your kids.

It is so strange to have two adult newbies instead of high schoolers. It's such a big leap for them. And for us, if I'm being honest. :)

I really appreciate the kind words. It's got me thinking we should get back out there sooner rather than later.

chamois wringers
ha! yeah, I briefly did post the meme of the Shamwow guy wringing out a chamois and deleted it right away because I figured it could be misconstrued because I was thinking about the overall decline in overland vids, not just specific to OB vids...which I afterward realized was the target of the OP.

there is an overall decline in a LOT of social media genre and the overlanding theme is no different...its a cool thing that people over saturated and now we are seeing the decline. OB has stayed true to overlanding and continues to still do the work...also why I still enjoy this site.

the thread is just titled "Youtube" and was asking about the decline in vids..I chimed in because I was thinking about Youtube overall and several YouTube channels I used to watch on a regular basis. a lot of them started off good and then went more to getting sponsors and selling weird merch. eventually a lot of the channels were just self promoting and always asking for likes and subscribers with clickbait and pandering taking over and then they seemed to just disappear. I figured that was what was being referenced about rats on a sinking ship...people jumping on the bandwagon and "wringing it out" for what they can and then bailing out. YouTube has millions of content creators, so I totally do expect to see that on there, nothing to impune OB.

and yeah, kids are definitely important. I was a senior supervisor working overseas and making crazy money when I decided to quit so I could be home and raise my two boys. being gone 10 months out of the year wasn't cutting it, so I quit and started my own company where I could still do things the way I wanted to and be home for my kiddos. absolutely the right move...

I bet. I don't want to imagine that for mine, haha. Im trying to keep them little. But, thats 2 more reliable people in your camp and that makes it better because they're your kids. A whole new dynamic for your relationship with them.

I hope you and Michael do return sooner then later. Im still a newbie and your videos have been very beneficial for me becauseyou guys made it about the experienceand not about spending so much money and having the top of the line stuff. It seems like the last few years has been hectic for a lot of people. I hope you guys bring back the limited edition runs too. I was the 1 that had that order issue with the northern run that you were brought in on. Anyways. I look forward to you guys' returning when life lets you.

Yeah, thats my fault. I should have been more specific. I got so used to seeing certain content creators on my channel and got spoiled. Life happens and kids do come 1st. I was just curious. Thats all. I find myself rewatching certain videos at times. Im a dork.

Overland Bound then and now :p

Ya, we look forward to rolling out the new 2.0 stuff over the next few months. In many ways what we set out to do in the first place. We’re getting some breathing room and glad to get back to OLB.

omg I swear this kid.... You tell him to smile, he flattens out his face, and then as soon as you've taken the shot he bursts into giggles.

Now THIS was him 99% of the time. Pretending to be a rock star on the hood. :)

its all good...I didn't realize you were specifically talking about OB vids, thought you meant overlanding vids in general on Youtube

Love it he rocks it ontop of the hood and Michael rocks it under the hood (referencing all the videos of him greased up sitting in the engine bay)!

That brings me back to the days when I was driving a 1994 GMT400 full size Chevy Blazer Silverado 1500 5.7 liter

When the family and friends all had the annual camping trip, my nephews and nieces would climb on it like that, even on the roof. I remember their mothers yelling at them to get off or they would dent and scratch it. I pointed out it was 15 years old by that time and rather resembled the condition of Rick Simon's truck in terms of paint quality...those were the days. Now the youngest has already had his time in as an Army Ranger, the next youngest is about to be married, all the rest are settled in with kids of their own, and me and Lady Beagle have 5 grandkids with one on the way.

Hopefully much bigger camping parties coming up

Ha ha, I see he has his father's verklempt and exhasperated look on his face (judging by dads avatar).

To the topic...in a way, it may be good there are fewer social media posts in general, especially if that means more people are out there doing things with their lives that keep them off social media longer in a given day. I find this site, ExPo, MTO, and the various Chevy/GMC truck forums very helpful when I am looking for an answer to a question, or perusing for more information. But I enjoy being busy and having time away from my devices also.

And it seems, EVERY ONE of my machines is at some level of disrepair after this long, cold snowy winter, that I have more than enough to do to get my garden tractor's steering fixed (after already just changing two deck belts, a spindle, and a tire, and doing some manual blade sharpening), my snow blower belt replaced, my old OLD chainsaw running right again, and figure out what the h e l l is causing that misfire at cylinder 8 in my 5.3 liter, I just won't have time enough for d!ckin around online every day, OTHER THAN investigating solutions. Or commenting in this thread, obviously
