I have TONS of questions, but since I'm in the early stages here are my main concerns right now:

1. Good, comfortable sleep is hands down my #1 priority. I'm leaning towards a truck topper with a pop-up, e.g. OVRLND, Topo Topper, etc. I'm a 200lb plus side sleeper, and I've slept on 4" memory foam and woke up with sore hips. So I'm really leaning toward the OVRLD toppers because you can add more bed height and a ticker mattress. But I'd love to hear others experience, any bigger folks getting a good nights sleep on a 2-3" mattress (like the ones offered by most other topper manufactuerers?). I know I can add addiitional foam/bedding/etc when I setup but I'm not crazy about carrying/storing and setting up more bedding when I camp.

2. For the truck I was looking at adding Roadmaster Active Suspension to help with the extra weight, seems like an easy inexpensive way to go. Anyone have experieince with that?

Greetings,

my name is Sebastian and I’m originally from Erfurt, Germany. I’ve lived in South Tyrol for four years and now live in Weiz, Austria. I’m a mechanical engineer and I develop systems for overlanding and drinking water treatment. I also have a blog that I run with my wife, where we write about our builds and experiences (weissexplorers.com). I deliberately design open systems that you can repair and understand yourself. I think that’s very important when you’re out in the wilderness for long periods of time, far from civilization.

We got into overlanding with our Land Cruiser J120, which now has over 266,000 km on the odometer. We bought it used in 2009 and most recently, we traveled through northern Spain in it, covering over 4,500 km in 2 1/2 weeks. We love traveling far from tourist areas and want to discover these countries at our own pace in our vehicle.

I enjoy sharing my expertise especially around water filtration and I am looking forward to a great exchange with y'all!
