Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Spent a few quality hours rewiring my dash/security cameras, a few extra always on USB outlets and my fridge. I also removed the factory subwoofer to allow keeping the fridge in the truck facing rear for easy access.

Sadly the trip to Ontario got cancelled as uscis never approved my wife’s early parol request. :/

A friend kindle offered us her place in Naples,FL which unfortunately was impacted by a hurricane just prior to our trip. . . :/

So our vacation became going to see family and visit the Smoky mountains.

What roof rack did you install? I didn't notice you mention it, other than the picture.

It is a rhino rack pioneer platform

Rhino Rack 84”x56”
I used the tall rain gutter mounts with a 10mm spacer to clear the rear of the roof and the rear moon roof which curves outwardly very slightly. The rear most tall mounting feet have to be modified slightly on the back side to clear the seals which protrude for the safari windows.

She made the nearly 1600 mile round trip journey to the 45th parallel without issue. The toddlers have officially dubbed it the “bluey truck” and throughly enjoyed the commanding view that they had over mom and dad from the rear seat between the LR elevation and their child seats.

6 years on and she's still providing us with wonderful trips. While exploring on our most recent trip up north for thanksgiving we were able to tour through a conservation park known as "African Lion Safari" in Ontario. Neat place, and the kids had a blast looking out at the wildlife out the safari windows as the baboons climbed about on the roof rack.

Definitely winding down for the season as winter is approaching, but our kids loved the shows about the birds the park helps breed in captivity to restore wild populations and being able to see the animals in different sections of the park especially with the animals having more space to roam compared to our local Zoo in Nashville.

Mounted a fan to better circulate A/C whilst in motion, and relocated my control center to mount over where the now abandoned sunroof control was. Giving better control of my aux lighting, radios, and the new fan.

After the last trip to Ontario I decided it was time to upgrade the interior a bit, and finally sprung for a rear table for the back door from golden rovers as well as one of their dash vent mounts for our devices. I also sprung for new interior lighting from feniex utilizing their 1” white marker lights mounted in some scrap aluminum supports I fabricated to space them out.

Also took the rover on the kids first Cub Scout outing where we were asked to contribute dessert, so we cooked up some cobbler with my Dutch ovens then served it up with ice cream pulled from the ARB. To say the other parents and kids were excited for dessert was an understatement.

The wife was on the market for a new car and we located a clean ‘17 discovery with the turbo diesel and seating for 7 so it’s taken over some of the lighter road-trip and towing duties from my rover for the time being.
