Hello All,

I'm about a year into my build but as with all things that I get into my build has and will continue to take a lot of time due to my work Schedule.

  • *Maybe* 1-2" lift (Not sure because any higher and the truck won't clear the garage with the RTT)

The Tacoma has good approach and departure angles so I'd go for smaller lift and taller tires (255/85/16). The smaller lift will provide better droop travel for better offroad traction and the taller tires will provide more traction AND more ground clearance. You're off to a great start!

Do you think a 1" lift will do or will i need more? I really don't want to go too much taller if I don't have to.

You'd need to check TW for more real world results but I believe 1" is enough BUT some people have to do the body chop mod. That's usually for wider 33s (285/75/16) but I'm not 100% sure. This thread is a wealth of knowledge.


The main point is that it is easier to fit a taller skinny tire than it is to fit a tall wide tire. When you lift an IFS truck, the wheels get pulled inward towards the frame which can cause tire rub so often times lifting higher can make the problem worse with stock wheels.

Awesome thank you. Yeah I had been looking into it at one point but for the wider tires. But reading up on the skinny tires makes me realize I'd do better with a 255.

I’ve added/changed a few things since my last post.

-Exchanged 18” bedrack for 10” tall bedrack
-Added roofrack from Victory 4x4
-Added Midland MXT275 GMRS for trail Comms
-Added Rotopax and FuelPax to bed Rack

Still Upcoming (In no particular order)
-2” OME Lift (Late fall 2020) HD rear springs
-Rock Sliders
-Full Skids
-Hybrid Bumper w/winch
-33” Tires when current set wears out.
-Additional Lights
-HAM Unit

Looks great. Love your tent, thats my next purchase.

I would highly recommend upgrading your rear leaf stack. I was running an add a leaf for almost 4 years, all the while I kept adding weight (RTT, bed rack, Hi Lift etc) Truck was riding like a boat haha

Replaced the full leaf stack from Icon , night and day difference.

EDIT: nvm, just say your update on the upcoming OME HD rear springs :smile:

Thanks! Quite a bit of work and money I've been putting in and I finally feel like it's to the point where I can start to see the final product. And yes with everything on there and fully loaded it definitely feels like a boat . I cannot wait to get the lift and HD springs in. But too many trips planned until the fall to do that.
