I'll go for tow chain and come along. I don't know how many times I have pulled some inexperienced driver in a two wheel drive out of a mud puddle or sand dune. That includes me before I wised up.

I agree but a tow chain, strap and winch are ALWAYS in my Willys, a full tank of gas isn't.

Yeah, I've never used my recovery plates for my own recovery..

A full tank of gas. I can't tell you how many times in the last 45-50 years I've run across someone out of gas, usually because they didn't fill up before they went out.

Water is the next thing.

My Dad always said "It's just as easy to keep the top of the gas tank full as it is the bottom half"

I'm not fully equipped yet, but working on it and carry what I do have to save my butt and just hope I don't forget anything since its loose and not in the rig all the time. That's why I stated what I did in post #13 !

I don't really leave the beaten path but I have a 30' recovery strap and a shovel in the back always. The strap comes in handy quite a bit around my property and helping neighbors.

I live on the 3rd floor and do not have a garage.. so, I always tend to forget at least one thing (last time it was dinner plates!). I don't mind helping out when someone else is stuck at all, just the opposite, it's an opportunity to kinda give back. The recovery plates are just an insurance policy, I'm glad I've never had to use them for my rig.. but when I'm way out there solo, I don't wanna risk it.

In addition to the "obvious", a spare key not located inside the truck. I was a couple hours drive back in the forest when my keys jumped (unknowingly) outa my pocket. I truly thought I was gonna have a heart attack when I got back to my truck after a hike with my dog and my keys were gone.

Backtracking as best I could for two and a half hours, I got lucky.

I "never" lose my keys. "Ever". Except once, hours (drive time) deep into the Siuslaw, and more hours on foot.
