My 2 cents....
I love my Microsoft Surface Pro tablet, and I can map out my track using GAIA GPS, but you can't run the active GIA APP on Windows 10. It seems kinda stupid.
I ended up using Bing maps with an external US Globalsat GPS receiver. Works well if you don't need much map detail. GAIA has had tons of requests for a Windows 10 compatible navigation app.
My solution works great because I use the surface for video uploads, email, ect. when I can get free Wi-Fi on longer excursions.
I use a iPad mini 4 with an x-grip and the garmin inreach explorer+. Works great. I used to use the iPad with a Dual Electronics XGPS150A. That also worked great. Highly recommended.
I run an Air ll with a Garmin GLO 2 for the GPS. Spot on , the Garmin runs around $100. Seconds to lock on to the sats. Runs 13 hours on a charge, take about 3 hrs to charge and will operate while charging.
