What size and where to purchase propane tank?

I want to carry a larger propane tank for cooking and heating w/ the Mr. Buddy. I am thinking a 10lb tank. Good size? Where to purchase?

The 11lb Squatty has a gauge which is nice. Also, something could be said for stability... especially when you plan to use it for your heater. The 12" diameter fits nicely in a milk crate. But the 10 lb tall unit has a smaller footprint which may work better for your vehicle's storage area.

You can get tanks off of Amazon or EBay. I’d go with a Worthington or FlameKing. 5lb tanks dimensions are 13”tall x 8”wide, 10lb tanks are 18” tall x 9 wide.

One cool thing that can happen with a 5 lb tank is since fill centers charge by the gallon and a 5lb holds 1 gallon dry. Certain places won’t bother charging you if they can’t get a full gallon in your tank. Kinda crazy but it’s happened to me on several occasions and I’ve had it happen to a few friends as well. It’s not the norm but a pleasant surprise when it happens.

@MSD I have a Worthington 281149 advertised as "1-Gallon" and the specs actually say 4.25 lbs of propane. I've confirmed with my scale.

I use a 6 lb aluminum Worthington purchased through Powertank. Not cheap, but decent capacity in a small footprint with low weight. It fits on a half swing-out, alongside a jerry can mount.

Thanks everyone for each of your thoughts and suggestions. I just got back from another trip out to the Eastern shore. I took my 20 gallon and didn't need it but I am going to play around with different setups. At the moment it is about available room and weight. With my Lab and all my photo equipment, the Taco gets filled rather quickly.
