I just have to add some comedy to the list....The Great Outdoors with John Candy and Dan Akroyd....was hilarious and is when I first fell in love with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.also great takes on wildlife in the great outdoors....Lets not forget Tommy Boy and crazy antics of overlanding in a muscle car with a buck in the back seat...
You guys have a good thread going. I have been following Andrew St Pierre White for quite sometime. (Read his books watched his Youtube 4Xoverland channel etc) He has put Africa on my bucket list.
Yeah, 2nd the Ronny Dahl videos. Seems like a good guy I'd like to have a drink with. Just matter of fact about many of the FUBAR situations they get themselves into (reminds me of Marlon Perkins' comments from the safety of the helicopter while Jim was about to meet his maker by whatever that shows focus predator was).
I've gotten into the habit of buying an autobiography or biography about the local statesman/legend/hero while traveling. The Killing of Crazy Horse while in the Badlands/Black Hills, Thomas F. Walsh, Colorado Mining Tycoon while in Ouray/Silverton, etc. Ties the local geography into the narrative and adds to our interest in seeing obscure local landmarks. Don't recall the books title, but while we were in Canyonlands/Arches I read about the Mormon's travels from the East Coast to SLC. It was a read, and seeing the terrain they traveled through in wagons added visual context to the written words.
A fantastic Overlanding book is Road Fever by Tim Cahill. It documents his travel from Tierra del Fuego to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. His writing style is quite comical and very informative and the trip is one I’d love to attempt sometime.
WOW!!! I've been away from this thread for a year now.
I have started over at the beginning and perused each post again.
So many great suggestions. Between Netflix, YouTube, and reading material, there's at least another year's worth of worthy and inspirational entertainment.
