What are the cables that are connected from the top off the roof to hood

Hello everyone, I have been curios for the longest time about the cables that are on top of rigs that are connected from the top of the roof to the hood on the cars. I havnt actually had the chance of being up close to examine what they can be for myself. Every time I see them it drives me crazy and thought i can finally ask what they are? and used for?
