Well I bought Starlink

I got Starlink prior to the mini coming out. It had helped in keeping in touch with family and unexpected route plan changes. First I had to use the inverter but later put together 12 volt dc option to keep the power consumption down and easier/faster setup. Thinking about added a Bluetooth switch so I can turn the Starlink off/on remotely.

Wish I would have known about these before. It would have been a much cleaner install instead of rocker switches.

I’ve been horribly disappointed in my home internet service, so have been thinking of this option anyway. Add in the flexibility of the roam service to allow working from the road, and it seems a good idea. I just don’t want to have to deal with a mass of cables.

Everything is included and we were able to run ours in the van with a Samlex 150w inverter. Since I prefer to set up things my way, I've switched to a different router etc but none of that is necessary.

I have a Gen 2 on Roam that I use in the MH when its being used, other Gen 2 is at home. So I am planning totake the Roam Gen 2 on overlanding trips and just use the Jeep JT's 400w 120v outlet to run it while I'm driving and the Redarc 3000 inverter when I'm camped. Seems the easyest way to do it. I have 400w of solor and a 230ah LiTime battery. Am I missing anything?

For those that use the PAUSE feature of Star Link, you should have gotten an email "STRONG ARMING" you into a $5 reoccurring charge to keep the service. I am researching what this actually means so I might change my tune but...Not happy.

Switch to Standby Mode and Stay Connected
We've upgraded the Pause feature to include Standby Mode, so you stay connected even when you're not using your regular service plan. For $5 per month, you’ll have unlimited low-speed data, perfect for calls, texts, and instant reactivation during emergencies or in dead zones. You'll also continue to receive software updates to keep your system up-to-date.

To opt-in, click Confirm Standby Mode and follow the steps below before 09/13/2025. If no action is taken, your paused service line will be cancelled.

Yeah got the same email, pretty typical Elon move if you talk to the Tesla crowd.

Well I was hoping something changed with him but I guess people really don’t change “much.” I will say that I read an article that Bozo the clown from Amazon will soon be competing for our business… and the kicker is he hired SpaceX to help launch the LEO sats.

From reading this email I dont see it as strong arming to pay $5 for minimal internet use. its ambiguous if you can still fully pause or turn it off. even if you cant i dont see an issue, other providers dont allow you to pause it at all. I know people that will actually like and use this feature because they dont use it much or do not want full "high speed" access. It will be able to act as an emergency communicator or keep in contact with loved ones for $5 a month rather than $165 a month. If i didmt have to work off starlink Elon would be losed $160 from me a month cause i wouldnt want the high speed.

Well, I wondered when the Elon bashing would happen.

I don’t know if it is Elon bashing or not? I bought the mini specifically for the roam and pausing feature. I am not a residential user so like I said in my OP, I am still looking into it. The fact of the matter is that they said if I don’t convert or make a decision, that my service would be terminated.

I don't think it's bashing. It is a tactic Elon uses, offer something for free and then later change the deal. It is what it is, $5 barely buys you a gallon of gas in California so not a huge deal to me but a fair number of people purchased the Mini due to it's no charge pause feature, and there's a lot of chatter across social media about their disappointment with this change.

Im more worried about CA gas prices now than Starlink.... how do afford it?

It sucks..lol. There's lots of talk of it going much higher but haven't seen any change. Stuck here for work at the moment, we will see what the future holds.

I love my starlink. being able to pause it is a plus. I may have it off for a couple of months. That's $50 a month I don't need to pay and if i turn it off after a day, I get a prorate. Either way, its better than anything else I've used.

Agreed it works well, but free pause mode is now gone and there’s standby mode which is $5 a month.

I don’t put it in standby. Didn’t know it was a thing. I just discontinue service and turn it on when I want to. No extra charge so far.

It's a brand new thing just happened in the last couple days, switch to standby and pay $5/month or your account will be deactivated. You should have gotten an email informing of this change. Will be curious to see if you get a new account charge when you reactivate.
