VA to WA, round 2

We are in the middle of planning our second cross country trek. Last time, we took the northern route via I-94. We’re thinking on the way there, we want to spend 4 days to get there. Our plans are fairly open and looking for recs for some good camping along the route. On the way back, we’ll be coming from northern CA back to VA and will likely be taking I-80. We haven’t done that route so any ideas and/or experiences would be appreciated. We’re going to take our time coming back 5-7 days.
