VA...Roanoke/Smith mountain Lake

If you go north of Roanoke on 311, there is the Bald Mountain road, I'll have to find the FS # for it. Its a nice ride but not very challenging. You can go left, off the top toward Oriskany and come up by Roaring Run Furnace for a bit of a hike and to splash in the water. There's a neat rockface/water slide near the top that is really fun.

The pines campground is out that way. Open till December 2. Im going to try to hit an overnight ther the 3rd week in September.
