I've definitely used my traction boards to level my truck. More than I have had to use them for actual recovery. lol
Haven't actually yet, but I intend on using my cheaper boards on the ground at the doors to my squaredrop camper. Upside down.

Kind of recovery, but I’ve had to use them under my front tires when winching someone else to keep my truck from sliding

Only had to use them once but was grateful to have them as I was stack in a ditch in the snow and was with my kids without signal. My wife kept asking me till then why did I purchase them?

I've used them to level my Van, as a platform stand on for my outside shower and a wind deflector for my stove while beach camping at Assateague Island

If you have one in a bright color, they make for a great tool to grab your attention or act as a reminder, certainly a very expensive sticky note but sometimes having an excuse to use some gear is worth it!

I buy most of my gear in bright orange. My traction boards, life vest, kayak paddles, dry bag, ground tent, etc. all orange.

Definitely a good move, I try to get bright colors for safety and it’s much harder to lose!
Use of MAXTRAX boards other than recovery
this is definitely going to depend on region...
if you are in the south, alternate uses will naturally be food related. the maxtrax could easily serve as a charcuterie board or a cutting board with the little cletes keeping the slippery fish or steak from sliding as you cut it. redneck hacks for this are virtually limitless...
if you are on the west coast, alternate uses will include saving the environment. the maxtrax can be used longways as a shovel to help plant trees or used sideways to help rake up litter and used hypodermic needles on the beach. it can also be used as a ramp to roll beached whales back into the water. being used on the west coast, the maxtrax board will be able to identify as any tool it wishes to be, thus giving it infinite powers...
if you are somehow in the midwest, you probably dont even know what a maxtrax is. being mistaken as a marital aid or a giant doorstop, a maxtrax in this region will probably never see the light of day...
the east coast, as usual, is going to be a bit more tricky. florida will actually use these as intended with numerous retirement homes having these mounted on residents hoverounds, making beach and flower bed extractions much easier. moving up the coast to maryland and into new york, these maxtrax can be used longways as a battering ram to smash windows on jewelery stores and department stores and then immediately flipped over and used as a tray to help hold looted goods. and then finally making it all the way up to maine...there is no need for a maxtrax since they already home to the ORIGINAL recovery board...(and if you live in maine and have gotten stuck on the beach...dont tell me youve never done it)

Old thread, but FWIW -- the MaxxTrax Mini paired with the Jax Base are endlessly useful. The Jaxbase is reinforced to support a HiLift jack or bottle jack. Plus they are much stiffer than the regular large ones. I have found them super useful, easy to store and haul out for much more stable fill-in than rocks for ledge climbing or stabilizing the rig. They bridge better than the large ones, as long as the shorter length isn't a problem and under a large one or two can create a much more rigid ramp.

During the planning of our truck and pop up camper I got real honest with myself about winches. I used my winch twice for self extraction in over 20 years of exploring . I’ve had someone winch me once because his line was already out, so it could have been 3 times. I carry a set of 4 Treds. We use them all the time to level up at camp and we’ve used them to get going after parked on a sandy beach for 5 nights. A winch would have done me no good on that beach.

I recently used my as a preventative means of getting stuck. I went to a seafood festival at a local VFW. When the guys said "park here in the grass field" (after 2 days of rain), I asked if he had anywhere else, that my van is almost 10k pounds. He told me no. As I carefully drove thru the field & backed into the highest spot I could find. I put down the boards & parked my front wheels on them (FWD Promaster). During the festival, drizzle started. When I went to leave, I observed the boards sink in the soft soil flush with the grass & my back tires approximately 1.5" in the dirt. I was able to drive off the boards & carefully, with momentum, made it to asphalt. When I walked back to retrieve the boards, I had to pry them out of the dirt with a shovel. I would've surely been stuck as soon as I tried to move without them.
