In my mind I am always at a remote high-elevation lake surrounded by snowcapped peaks.

Weekend trip to Usal Beach - family oriented. Typically camp on the beach if space and weather allow.

Hello Friends,

I have posted the 2025 version of the gpx file for our trip to Usal. If you have a look you'll notice quite a few more waypoints to the north of Usal Beach. For those of you that can spare the time you are welcome to join us as we break camp at Usal on Sunday morning. We'll be out for another week or so, visiting some really cool spots that are out of reach for the typical weekend trip. We'll spend a night or two in each spot and spend the day exploring. Here's a pic

Anyone gone north from the beach (lately)? I went about 200y up and it got real thick real quick, but was supposedly open. I was solo so opted to go home the regular way, which was just as well as I had to go back to work. This was May of 2024. Only curious.

(and to be clear, I mean north on Usal Rd from Usal beach. :)

I just tried to call Mendocino County Roads, at 707-463-4363, but can't get through. You may have better luck from your phone, or we can wait and see - it's been a couple of years since I last went up that way. I was a good road then, but a bit "pinstripy" if you get my meaning.

Thanks! Was only curious.

Anyway, news update from me, looks like we can join!

Hey Proton, it looks like your GPX file contained all of your waypoints and tracks from here to Canada! Thanks! ;)

Alas for USAL, we are somewhat tentative given the weather. Like 80% confident we go, and I am considering driving up to Ft Bragg tomorrow evening, then calmly to the beach early Friday afternoon.

If we see you we see you, we are in a grey tacoma with RTT (like that narrows it down!).

Sounds good. Latest weather says a bit rainy on Friday, then clear. We'll keep a light on for you :-)

My mistake in the way points, it’s just the California trip you described. Sounds great.

This kids and I are on our way. Don’t wait for us at the rendezvous location as we may arrive earlier and push to the beach. See you soon and drive safe. Thanks!

Hey guys, new to the forum here. How were the road conditions from Hwy 1 to Usal beach? Looks like you went just recently.
Planning a trip on 2wheels this coming weekend.
I hope it is not all wet and muddy on those up/down hills, kind off difficult on a heavy bike .
Last time have taken the road all the way from Shelter Cove in August last year and it was good.
Not sure how much of a damage have winter rains accomplished.

Thank you!
