Anza borrego, Joshua tree, Mojave rd, Death Valley any of those are always fun. Anza borrego is one of my favorite places to visit. Light pollution is 0 so you can get some good night pictures with the right set up.

Your a bit north. Death valley would be best (quickest). You can drop into the top and spend quite a while exploring.
Its about a full day just to get down to the south end where everything else is. I'm pretty central to everything and about 2- 3 hours from the trail heads including the bottom of death valley. Your about 8 hours from me. So figure 10 (ish) to Anza or this end of the Mojave. You said weekend so I'm assuming 2-3 days.
