Starting from scratch at 200k miles. Setup for failure?

  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

You can get a very capable vehicle and fix it up for $20-25 k. I have friend pick up a 4 runner and drive the southern 1/2 Of the pan American for less than that. I included a new motor. Get something you are comfortable with and trust to get you there and back. Have you mechanic go over it, and replace the questionable stuff. You can learn to work you truck as needed. You want to camp and play, not wrench. Play first wrench later
If you are looking for a rock crawler go Taco, you'll have less dents. If you want comfort go Trunda. I would pass on the RTT and stay with a ground tent (cheaper), a rack for a RTT and tent are $3 k to start. Start with dirt roads and learn your rig, if you want to rock crawl, start with a local club. Remember to make sure the wife is having a good time always.
