Southeast Overlanding?

Mr Wilson, what is the general area you will be in during 5 weeks? I have a planned trip of “Go West young man” which would be about 5-6 weeks but my truck repair robbed me so I have to rethink my costs…the pic is just a bunch of POI’s linked together. It’s daunting to plan a 6k miles trip starting in SWFLA.
I will be stopping in Santa Fe for a day , then on to Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Zion National Park, Canyon Lands NP, Moab area, and then to Colorado. Stops in Colorado are Telluride, Ouray, Lake City and then down to Mesa Verde NP and then back to Georgia. Will be back in Georgia about 2 weeks before heading to Overland Expo East.

Just before you get to Vegas, there is a bucket list item of mine. Grand Canyon West Skywalk.

I might be able to make a night of the 17 -20 July dates. I am retiring in mid-August, and work is trying to get as much as the can out of me before I leave. Depending on what the group decides, I might meet up at camp for a night just to introduce myself.
Who is planning on going to Overland Expo East? We could plan a meetup there. I plan to head up a couple of days early, spend the first night at the City of Bristol campground (Sugar Hollow Campground). The next day, head to Roanoke to visit the Virginia Museum of Transportation. That night, I will probably be wimpy and stay in a hotel; there is a restaurant that I have been promising to take my wife to for a while. (Montano's). Thursday morning, head to Overland Expo. I have purchased premium camping so I could arrive on Thursday. I originally planned to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway back south until I discovered that all the campgrounds close the same weekend as Overland Expo.

Not sure if I want to go back to Expo East. Went several times, starting in '21, and it keeps getting smaller.
Last year there were very few mfg's at all, mostly outfitters and suppliers. Walked the whole thing in 4 hrs.

Well, I'm back after a few unfortunate events. Driver side exhaust broke and blasted my trans wiring harness into a blob.

Guess what part has not been in production for 2+ decades, on top of the fact that my (1995) version was only produced until very early '96, then changed to a round pin with 4 more wires.
Managed to scavenge one from an old harness and rewired in.

Then, just 'cuz I had no time to finish the other 5 projects I have going on, I figured it was time to throw on a new RTT, install starlink, rewire all my switchpro leads, and a dozen other issues that came about with the changes.

I need a break.

Anyone still interested in a weekend?
I'll post up an event for the end of the month with some POI's scheduled in.

Welcome! You’re definitely in the right place. Some regional threads can be pretty quiet, but there are usually people around planning trips, trail runs, and meetups it just may take a little digging or posting to get things moving.

Try making a post with your general area and what kind of trips you’re interested in. There are plenty of folks who enjoy bringing new people along for weekend adventures, trail rides, and even casual meetups. The willingness to travel definitely helps!

Hello? Anyone in here?

I'm new to overlanding and looking for adventure! These Southeast region threads seem to be old and not used very often. Wondering if Im on the right app.

Does anyone in the southeast set up trail rides? Weekend trips? Coffee meet & greets? Anything at all really?
Am I in the wrong place to find these things?

Willing to travel great distances and sacrifice body parts.

Any help would be appreciated.

Patrick
Welcome to the overlanding community! You’re definitely in the right place. A lot of the regional threads can be quiet, but there are usually local groups, trail rides, meetups, and weekend trips happening through different communities.

Keep checking in, ask around, and don’t be afraid to start a meetup yourself. There are plenty of people in the Southeast who are always looking for others to explore with. Hope you find some great trails and adventures!

I also have noticed that many of the threads on here are old. I live in North Georgia and camp often in that area. I am retiring in mid August and plan to travel more. In September, my wife and I are heading to Utah/Colorado for a 5-week trip. Then, a few weeks after we return we are headed to Overland Expo East. I will be in Orlando the first couple of weeks in August, maybe we could meet up, I am looking for ideas for a Florida trip.
That sounds like an amazing adventure ahead! Since you’ll be in Orlando in August, you might enjoy exploring some of Florida’s natural areas before your bigger trips. A few places worth looking into are Ocala National Forest for camping and trails, the Florida Springs for kayaking and swimming, the Everglades for wildlife, and the Gulf Coast for some relaxing beach time. If you’re into overlanding, there are also some great backroads and camping areas around the state. Hope you have a great retirement and enjoy all the travel ahead!
