Robert OB 33/48 Rigs

Stability yes, true, but, it has a bit of play, which has to be, as the chassis and the body are connected with rubbers. So, the upper lock is bought with the thought that it can be adjusted and can provide a bit of play, and still is stabile.

Ok, a post without pics. As there is nothing to see. But a major change.
There are new leaf springs on the Frontera. Reinforced ones. So stronger and able to carry a bit more weight.
This week there will be new shocks on it as well.

Next little project is to rebuild the basket for the Oztent. It has to fit on the Rooaf rack of the Frontera and must be easy to be accesable.

How did you figure out what springs to get? Do you tend to carry much weight in the back normally? (I am mostly asking because I have seen people have issues with beefy springs making the ride a bit less optimal unless they always carry enough weight)

I asked the guy from Custom Offroad. I have shocks from Rugged Ridge. Mostly we measured the length, in and out. And it looked for the weight of the car. So, with those figures you can choose your shocks.

I worked today a bit on the Frontera.
I needed to extend my roof rack with a basket for the Oztent. But, I wanted it to be removable, and quickly as well.
So I did this.

So, to remove it, I just release one lock, and its

Wow, Robert, that is really a nice idea! The cam lock takes out any rattles, I assume? Stick a padlock on it and it will be nice and secure. Very clever!

As I have to go on my own to Poland, I made a little mount for my trackball. So I can navigate on my Toughbook with ease
12961304_1116471241731703_1448560039217244237_o.jpg

Then of course, I have no co-pilot who can hold my cup when needed, so, the most simple way of making one myself is this.
12916774_1116471245065036_8462695756058968712_o.jpg

And, I needed some spare fuel. So a dual carriage mount for two jerrycans of 10ltr would be enough.

That should be enough for this trip

That is the advantage of an Old car, almost no wires, and certainly no airbags.

Installed new leaf springs. Here a picture report;

So, I think Iam happy with them.

The brand is Old man Emu 1 inch lift and 200kg plus load.

Think these will be better as the ones i had before.

Just a little thing. I made a new rack for the Jerry cans.

It is really simple, but I think it is very sturdy. 5 to 6 mm steel should do the trick.

Final adjustments will be after this weekend and after next week holiday to Poland.
But Iam pretty pleased with it.

Next step in my rolling restauration :) is painting the car with U-Pol bedliner.
But before that, I had to do the inside of the doors, windows and rear door with standard black paint.
Oh, and dont forget the hood.
Well, almost ready to do the sanding and taping it.

We will see.

It is raining, so I had to adjust my timetable.
So an Awning (temporary) is set up.

Tomorrow will be another day.

Well, almost done. The care is done except for the rear. I have to move the car to reach the rear. So that will be done tomorrow.
U-pol is a great product. Iam very pleased with the result.
Just have a look.

And I started a new Project. As we are going to Morocco once more, we had to decide with which car we would go. And we decided that we would take the Frontera.
But one of the things you can do with the Van is sleep in it. But the Frontera is with fourwheel drive better equiped for the trip.
To make it a win win situation, the Frontera needs an interior that provides us with enough storage room and a place to sleep when needed.
We will do the trip with our Oztent and Trailer, but during the fast trip to Morocco and maybe one or two nights in a place were we think we better sleep in the car, we have to be able to do so.
So, lets build a new interior.
And this isslowly the result. Not finished yet, but the shape of it is showing already.
16107518_1105190482939935_468807346345432368_o.jpg

In the back there will be these two boxes. I will have in total 5 boxes in the back, two with drawers and the others will be top acces storage boxes.
One of the drawers will hold my toolbox and other technical gear, and the other one will hold some recovery stuff and fluids like oil and water (cleaning water and fills for wipers and such)
16112980_1105190479606602_2705444711144142053_o.jpg

It aint done yet, but you can see how it will look like.
15994774_1105190476273269_153966331424198080_o.jpg

The thrid box, you see right behind the drawer boxes is a almost car wide box with two lids on it. It is devided in two compartiments who can be accesed seperatly.
This can contain food, clothing, recovery gear and so on.
16112923_1105190536273263_2397248519351392928_o.jpg

The last two boxes will be in front of that, were the black box is and will also be able t contain clothing and such.
The idea will be that this all will provide us with a bed, not long or wide, but we need te be able to sleep when needed.
Think of a long day drive and bad weather and you just dont want to set up camp. So sleeping in the car and drive of the next day.
Or during the trip from Holland down to Morocco having a nap now and then.

But, if needed we can stack the three front boxes on top of the drawers and create a seat for a third passenger plus our dog.
And it has to be an easy removal of this all.

Well, the project will continue this week and I will show my progress.
