Question about Alpine Loop, Colorado

My wife and I are going to be heading out to check out the Alpine Loop and was wondering if the section from Ouray to Silverton is worth doing if we don’t have time to run the full loop… any advice is greatly appreciated…

I'm not completely sure what you're talking about when you say Ouray to Silverton. So, I'll give you the quick details on the only three options.
1) The drive on Highway 550 between Ouray and Silverton is twisty, beautiful scenery, and will take about 40 minutes.
2) Mineral Creek Trail to Animas Forks, then the gravel road to Silverton. Mineral Creek is a rough, somewhat technical trail that requires moderate driving skills to be safe and prevent damage.
3) California, Corkscrew, and Hurrican Pass' to Animas Forks, then to Silverton is probably the most scenic. It does have many tight shelf roads.

The Loop is great fun and the route can be hard or relatively easy depending on your chosen path. We were out there a couple of years ago and I recall we went Ouray to Lake City and back around to Silverton and there are some top notch sights. We had a gorgeous campsite at the end of Corkscrew that we put up on our channel. Watching it now I hope we got better at making the videos but for sure the sights are there! Hahaha

If you have Trails Offroad that is a very helpful app and guide.

There is also a video of Engineer Pass if that is of interest to you.

I was just there last week and did the Loop starting in Silverton. We started late so by the time we finished Engineer it was getting dark and raining. After eating in Lake City we drove towards the start of Cinnamon and found a place to camp for the night. Highly recommended!

I guess I never answered your question! The Ouray "entrance" looked like it was very crowded and busy. Plus from what I've seen a little rough in some places, not good when you have novice wheelers in the group.

The section from Ouray, called Mineral creek, is pretty rough and slow goinig. It is one of the very few trails in Ouray that I have no interest in doing again. Exspecially at the end of the day of wheeling.
