Hey everyone. I want to put together something for This summer. Perhaps late July or early August. Thinking VT or NH to try to keep it somewhat central to the northeast. What are your thoughts? Would be cool to do some camping on a lake but also want to be near some good trails and class VI roads. Any ideas?

If you're looking for dirt roads, google the following:

Hampster Run (across NH on dirt)
Puppy Dog Route (across VT on dirt)
Trans-Mass Trail (across Massachusetts on dirt)

They're mostly un-maintained public dirt roads, so not really serious off roading, but from what I've read it's still a great time (80-90% dirt). Planning to do the trans-mass to puppy-dog myself in the next few weeks for the first time.

Does anyone know if you can camp on the beaches in RI? That Puppy Dog to the Beach run looks like fun.

Thanks for the input. We Are planning on doing the full Puppy Dog route in the fall for foliage. But that doesn't mean we can't do it this summer.

Looks like there are campsites on East Beach. Could be fun to do a North to south Puppy Dog route form VT to East Beach RI. make it a 3 day weekend or something.

I'd definitely be in for going, especially since VT and NH were cut at the last minute from our Northeast Expedition next month. Summer is pretty hectic with personal plans and then festivals. If we could avoid Mid Atlantic Overland Festival on Aug 10- 13th that'd be great. I would vote for August, just not that weekend. Too many other things going on in July (for me) and it gives everyone more time to plan.

Looked in RI beaches before camping and it is doable. $50 for 3 day pass, $200 for the season for out of state. There is one office to get tags and the hours are limited. East beach does not allow tentsite camping and your rig (I think) needs to have containers to collect grey water and sewage. There are no bathrooms and showers.

Since I am new to overlanding the trans-mass looks like a great start.

Sounds good. Self employed so as soon as a date in August would be chosen, we could start our planning to do what we can to be part of this trip. This so far will be our first multiday trip so I will have some questions later.

I'm still thinking about the route for this. If anyone has good 2-3 day route suggestions please let me know. I threw a couple weekends up in a poll. Let me know when you all want to do this.
