Been working a lot lately, but took a couple day trips with the oldest kid. I have finally decided it's time to add a traction device to the rear axle. I'm debating on truetrac vs air locker. But I've also decided since I will be digging into at least one differential I might as well regear both of them. I ordered some 4.56 gears, new 16" rims(315/75/16's coming soon). Rims came in this week, gears should be here next week.IMG_0481.JPG

Recently start the gear swap. Got the rear diff done. I’ll start the front this week. Went 4.56 and powertax locker in the rear. 242B27C9-2DD4-4561-994A-C4CB4DD7DA37.jpeg

Had fab up a needle bearing puller. That got replaced with bushing from ECGS.

The biggest hurdle on the front was finding out that Yukon gear sent me the wrong bushing over a year ago so..... had to wait on fedex guy to bring me new one From East Coast Gear. Only have about 20 miles on the front now and need to patiently wait for both to be fully broke in and my #ronastaycation to be over. I had to cancel a trip through eastern Oregon for this month and I hope I can make it by late summer or early fall.

Nice swap! What pushed you to it?
75% was I just wanted something new to me. The other 25% was random things were wearing out very prematurely(largely due to the 35” tires) While I like the utility of a pickup, I like everything about an SUV more. Prior to my Taco I had an Xterra. It was supposed to get built up for off-road exploring but I just kept breaking. I was considering a new 4Runner but the wait times are long and even though the GX does have a locker or some of the other goodies I like it more. Having dogs , the rear door of the GX is better to me. It’s going to get some mods to make less grandpa and more off-road friendly but not quite the level of my Taco.
